Job Title:           Principal Electrical Power Engineer

Salary:               up to £55,000 per annum dependent upon experience

Location:          Barrow in Furness or Bristol

We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Principal Electrical Power Engineer. The role can be based in either Barrow in Furness or Bristol but offers the opportunity for hybrid working and flexible working hours. Individual circumstances can be discussed.

As part of the Electrical Power Systems Definition Team, you will be working on the UK’s next-generation SSN design that incorporates technology from the UK, Australia and the United States. You will be part of the Electrical Power team responsible for defining the needs of equipment, defining the system elements required to feed into the submarine design and build process, including design documentation, spatial modelling and build outputs.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Functional design and definition of Electrical Power Systems equipment
  • Authoring and reviewing technical documentation 
  • Managing associated technical risks, assumptions and dependencies
  • Providing advice on electrical power technical aspects across a broad range of engineering disciplines
  • Engaging with customers and suppliers to provide solutions to complex problems
  • Taking a leading role by guiding more junior members of the team through the systems definition process
  • Opportunity to travel to various locations throughout the UK, including various internal, customer and supplier sites

About You:

  • Degree qualified Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering experience
  • Engineering Chartership required (or significant progress towards Chartership can be demonstrated)
  • Significant knowledge of AC and DC electrical power systems
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills 

You must be eligible to apply for SC clearance and, therefore, must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years
