Job Purpose We are looking for Head of Business to support our commissioning team in Wales. The commissioning team in Wales are at the forefront of the development and decision making process for drama, comedy and factual content on television and iPlayer. We commission the very best storytellers to do their very best work, portraying Wales as it is in all its forms with the intention of creating content to educate, inspire and entertain the whole of the UK. Recent scripted commissions include 'Lost Boys & Fairies', 'Men Up', 'Wolf' and 'Steeltown Murders' as well as hit comedy series 'Mammoth'. Unscripted content sits across the genres and transmits on BBC Network, iPlayer and BBC1 Wales. The Head of Business will play a pivotal role in overseeing the commissioning business strategy and financial management across all commissioning budgets including BBC Cymru Wales Welsh language output. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities Devise the management of content mix across the BBC Cymru Wales Opts flexing to balance to available funding Responsible for delivery of savings where appropriate Responsible for BBC Cymru Wales originations / repeat ratio, including modelling the impact of schedule changes Responsible for the production of business cases for investment / business strategy Responsible for producing detailed analysis and presenting available options around the impact of wider Wales strategic commissioning changes on the schedule - i.e impact and options of BBC Cymru Wales content re-mix Responsible for the business workflows of the department, amending as appropriate Close working relationship with Business Affairs colleagues to agree appropriate programme pricing on all TV programming and to resolve any financial issues as progress to contract is made Close working relationship with Business Affairs and Finance colleagues to ensure that Commissioning cashflow is managed within budget Responsible for production of Sport's Rights cases for URC highlights, Six Nations, Welsh Open Snooker or other amendments as appropriate Responsible for the Contestability timeline for the department Business lead for tenders, working closely with Business Affairs and Editorial colleagues Together with the Snr Head of Commissioning, responsible for the relationship management with major Sporting/Cultural Bodies Co sign off on all programme cases presented to PFC Management and reporting of BBC Cymru Wales regulatory conditions across TV (including News) Management and reporting of the Independent quota across TV Working with the Snr Head of Commissioning on organisational design / recruitment within the department Responsible for Wales input into the annual Supply Report and review of Diversity Code of Practice Deputising for the Snr Head of Commissioning as appropriate Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience An understanding of the wider commercial market Strong track record in stakeholder management Experience devising and implementing a strategy Direct experience of managing a production budget and other dependencies Demonstrable understanding of the global challenges and opportunities facing the creative industries and the importance of them to the culture and economy of Wales.
