Overall job purpose:

Responsible for the provision of timely advice and guidance on all matters relating to health, safety and the environment with respect to legislation, company practice and future strategy. Improve current health and safety systems within the business and establish a framework for environmental compliance and direction for the business. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

       Drive behavioural cultural change programs

       Provide visibility and interface of the HSE function with department heads and all persons responsible for health & safety across the operating sites

       Ensure a robust system of risk assessment, including procedures, guidance and training exist across the business.

       Lead development of the HSE plans across the various activities within the business, working with functional heads to ensure HSE leadership at all levels

       Ensure the program for inspection and testing of facilities and equipment, e.g. pressure systems, LEV, lifting equipment, in accordance with insurance and statutory requirements:

       Review existing health & safety procedures, including training material, recommend changes and implement as required

       Develop appropriate HSE KPIs, report activity and communicate across the leadership teams

       Lead and develop H&S committee activity

       Develop and implement a system to maintain appropriate documentation and records to demonstrate compliance all statutory requirements

       Environmental management and compliance, liaison with internal and external stakeholders

       Lead development of EMS process and compliance leading to ISO14001 and Net Zero objectives


These tasks are not intended as an exhaustive list of the post holder's duties. The post holder is expected to carry out any reasonable request as deemed appropriate by their Manager in order to support business needs. Specific responsibilities and authorities are defined in procedures relevant to the role.


Qualifications and training:

       NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

       Practical and up-to-date knowledge of UK health and safety legislation

       Microsoft packages, including Excel

 

       NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

       Institute of Environmental Management qualification

       Degree / HND, or equivalent, in technical discipline

 

Experience:

Essential

       Minimum 5 years experience as a H&S Advisor

Desirable

       Environmental management exposure and development

-      Able to interact and communicate effectively with staff at all levels in the organization, as well as with external bodies, with the confidence to deal with conflicting opinions.

-      Organised and methodical, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.

-      Prepared to be flexible with working hours when the situation demands it, e.g. emergency response
