Practice Development Education & Research Facilitator: ADON

Temporary (2years) Part-Time, 28 hours per week.

 

A vacancy has arisen within the Nursing Department for the above position. This is a temporary (2 years) part time post working 28 hours per week.

The Nursing Practice Development Co-ordinator will:

  • Develop and lead on clinical nursing practice in nursing at Blackrock Health Galway Clinic
  • Promote an environment for professional nursing practice, which is consistent with the mission, vision and values of Blackrock Health.
  • Co-ordinate the nursing services quality assurance programmes in such a way as to support and ensure the delivery of the highest standard of person-centred nursing care.
  • Ensure that the clinical areas to which student nurses are assigned for clinical placements provide optimum teaching and learning environments and are capable of meeting the learning outcomes for student nurses as set out by third level institutions and the NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
  • Maintain and advance person-centered nursing practices that underpin current care processes, to continue to enhance clinical effectiveness and patient outcomes.
  • Facilitate change and play a key role in promoting the organizational developments and strategies necessary to sustain innovations in nursing practice.
  • Support the Director of Nursing in the strategic and future development of Nursing. 
  • Provide leadership in Nursing practice, thus, promoting excellence in nursing practice 
  • Be an active member of the Senior Nursing Management Team providing strategic and clinical leadership and direction for nursing and ancillary services.
  • Attend meetings with the Director of Nursing, Clinical Facilitators, Clinical Nursing Managers, Staff Nurse Teams and, also liaise and meet with Clinical Placement Co-ordinators (CPC'S) and
  • Allocations Officer from affiliated universities as required.
  • Provide leadership on quality issues and co-ordinate the implementation of the quality assurance strategies in Nursing. Develop and implement systems that contribute to quality improvement, and, furthermore, develop monitoring and audit mechanisms for use in measurement of service quality.
  • Support and guide staff in formulating evidence-based policies, protocols, guidelines and procedures that will ensure that the highest standard of person-centred nursing care is provided within available resources.
  • Evaluate the existing Nursing electronic health record (EHR) and guide amendments and changes required to meet both best practice and legal requirements as indicated by the NMBI
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Directors of Nursing and Clinical Nurse Managers to address any practice issues or concerns highlighted and assist implement remedial actions as appropriate.
  • Support the escalation of risk incidents identified in practice
  • Liaise with NUIG, ATU and HC Department of Nursing and CPCs to ensure that the clinical areas where student nurses are assigned for nursing/midwifery practice placements provide the optimum learning/teaching environments and are conducive to the learning requirements of the students.
  • Be responsible for the co-ordination and facilitation of a schedule of ongoing education, professional development and clinical audit for the Nursing Department.
  • Provide operational support for Senior Nurse management as required

 

The Candidate:

  • Be a registered nurse, or be eligible to be registered, in the division relevant to the practice in which the application is being made on the Register of Nurses and Midwives held by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NBMI]
  • Have at least five years' post registration nursing experience including a minimum of two years' experience/involvement in clinical practice management, practice development, education or quality improvement.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of practice development and quality improvement in nursing/midwifery services within acute hospital care services
  • Have Knowledge of all current publications that impact on the Nurse Education, Training, Learning and Professional Development of nurses and midwives.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Quality Care Metrics and clinical audit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate nursing programmes and the clinical experiences required to meet the needs of the requirements of students and NMBI
  • Demonstrate effective communication interpersonal skills including building and maintaining relationships with clinical and academic staff, and writing and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to give and receive feedback in the conduct and application of the role, including in relation to identifying areas for improvement in practice activity, and the ability to work effectively within a team and possess innovation and creativity to deal with challenging situations.
  • Demonstrate evidence of management/organizational skills, including the ability to facilitate change through practice development initiatives and the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload appropriately, to manage deadlines, effectively handle multiple tasks, and possess the ability to use his/her own initiative.   
  • Demonstrate an empowering style as a consultant to others, providing advice and guidance in supporting the identification, implementation and delivery of knowledge-based care.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the factors involved in creating, maintaining and promoting quality care environments.
  • Demonstrate evidence of research appreciation and evidence-based practice skills.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to support, promote and engage in change management.
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional and personal self-development.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and/or experience of change management.
  • Demonstrate evidence of computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and use of email etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
