The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) is the Regulatory Body for Irish horseracing, responsible for assuring public trust in horseracing and safeguarding its reputation through robust and transparent regulatory practices, implemented with uncompromising integrity by a focused and professional team. An exciting opportunity now exists to join the IHRB as a Senior IT Support Technician. Working closely within a team and consulting with various stakeholders from the industry this is an important and challenging role with both individual and collective responsibility for ensuring that where applicable, our IT systems are maintained and enhanced to best industry standards. The position will be predominately office based.

 

Core Job Responsibilities

The Snr. IT Support Technician will play a key role in maintaining the reliability and efficiency of our IT services. This position requires a proactive and solution-orientated individual who can deliver high-quality IT support and contribute to the operation of our loyalty systems. A non-exhaustive list of core responsibilities is listed below:


IT Support Help Desk Management

  • Efficiently manage and operate the IT service desk.
  • Accurately log, track, and update incoming IT support requests received via phone and e-mail.

IT Problem Resolution

  • Collaborate what IT staff and suppliers to troubleshoot and resolve IT issues within the organization in conjunction with our stakeholders.
  • Provide timely and effective solutions to IT-related problems.

System Maintenance and Upgrades Qualifications

  • Perform routine maintenance on organisational IT systems.
  • Manage the installation of hardware and software ensuring Systems are regularly updated and patched.
  • Troubleshooting hardware issues both on-site and remotely with track IT equipment and applications.

Data Backup and Recovery

  • Execute data backup processes, ensuring the integrity and availability of data.
  • Conduct further verification and restoration procedures as required.

User Account Management

  • Administer user account operations, including additions, modifications, archiving and deletions in Active Directory and other applications.

On-Site IT Training and Documentation

  • Provide on-site and remote IT training to end users.
  • Document steps, procedures and any changes made to systems or processes.
  • Ensure a clear and accessible record for future reference and is maintained.

Communication and Customer Service

  • Maintain a friendly and efficient attitude in all interactions, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.

 

 

The Person

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, proactive and a solutions-focused individual with a strong work ethic. To be considered for this position you will need to be a clear communicator with excellent written and verbal skills, meticulous attention to detail and be able to work under pressure and as part of a dynamic team environment collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders, as required. Flexibility and adaptability in terms of tasks and time is essential for this post, as well as the ability to prioritize competing demands with a high degree of technical aptitude and an ability to learn on the job. The successful candidate should have an awareness of confidentiality and the ability to deal with sensitive queries.

 

Horseracing is a seven-day-a-week sport and the role will be a 37.5-hour working week including a mix of weekend work, public holidays, evenings, and early morning starts. The role will be predominately office-based with some duties to be carried out on racecourses, so a full clean Driving Licence and use of own vehicle is essential.

 

Education, Knowledge & Experience 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise with key internal and industry stakeholders.
  • Well-organised, able to multi-task, work under pressure to meet key deliverables, and thrive on new and diverse challenges.
  • 2 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Working experience with administering windows 10/11 and Office 365 is essential.
  • Proficiency with office applications (Word, Excel PowerPoint, and Access).
  • Good understanding and experience of LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi and VPN technologies.
  • First-hand experience with voice management technologies and familiarity with both Apple and Android devices.
  • Understanding of database technologies such as RDBMS and ODBC.

 

Desirable

  • MS Power Apps, VBA, MySQL and Linux plus.

 

Qualifications

  • Hold a third-level qualification in IT or suitable industry IT certification.
