The Organisation:


Cheeverstown is a voluntary organisation, regulated by the Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA).


We provide a wide range of person centred services including residential, respite and day services to almost 400 children and adults with an intellectual disability in the south Dublin area. 


Purpose of the Post:


We are seeking applications from energetic and enthusiastic individuals to join our Self Supported Directed Living (SSDL) team as Care Assistants (ID) to provide care and support through a person-centred approach which promotes the persons development and growth and participation in their local communities.


This is a part time, 19.5 hour contract that require flexibility to work days, evenings and weekends.


Candidates must be highly motivated, creative and experienced, with a passion for engaging with the people we support on a daily basis. In order to promote and support community integration for the individuals supported by Cheeverstown. The role of Care Assistants (ID) is significant in a person's life. The work is rewarding, varied and interesting. 


Key Responsibilities


  • Plan and deliver supports that are person-centred, which will enable people to have full and meaningful lives.
  • Respond to individual needs, interests and desires in planning and delivering supports.
  • Support people to access community-based services and opportunities, enabling people to develop relationships and roles to ensure people are included and valued in their own communities.
  • Work to maximise opportunities for people to meet their potential.
  • Undertake training for the safe administration of medication.
  • In the course of employment all employees may be required to support residents or day attenders in leisure activities including participating in activities in the swimming pool, cooking, cleaning and driving.
  • Partake in career and personal development planning.
  • Actively participate in induction, supervision, mentoring, appraisal, reflection and be open to reflective practice
  • Responsibility for daily administration duties.
  • Maintain appropriate service user records and comply with department policies regarding clinical documentation practices.
  • Knowledge of HIQA, the Health Act 2007- 2013.


Person specification:


Essential:


  • Minimum FETAC/QQI Level 5 Major Award in Social Care/ Healthcare Support or relevant qualification- all 8 modules completed.
  • A strong desire to work with persons with an intellectual disability.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the philosophy of supported living, community integration and social role valorisation
  • Values that correspond with Cheeverstown's values. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including good listening skills.
  • A person-centred approach to the provision of supports, including an understanding of the individual needs and abilities of each person.
  • Strong interest and ability in providing social supports to maximise each person's quality of life and enable them to have a meaningful day.
  • Flexibility and ability to respond to changing needs and situations.
  • Openness to providing supports across a variety of activities. 
  • Commitment and dedication to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disability and autism.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Good IT and administrative skills.



Desirable:


  • Experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Experience supporting people with autism.
  • Possess a full clean drivers license and willingness to drive.


Please note: All job offers are subject to two successful references, qualifications, ongoing Garda Vetting and a satisfactory pre-employment medical. Salary will be paid at the Care Assistant ID grade on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales, depending on qualifications and experience.
