We have an opportunity for a Permanent Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join an independent first opinion small animal practice that is soon to open in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.

You will play a crucial role in decision making, overseeing the running of the practice, leading by example to support your other team members. As well as the usual diagnosing and treating various conditions, performing consultations surgeries, and ensuring the overall well-being of the animals.

This role is full time for 40 hours per week over 4 days, along with weekends on a rota. The practice are fully open to discuss all options on working hours.

  • Team: 4 vets, 4 nurses, HVN, practice manager and a very supportive non-clinical team

Duties and responsibilities
  • Involved in the recruiting of new team members
  • Liaising with the owners
  • Be heavily involved with growing the practice, its team, client base etc.
  • Maintaining and accurately writing clinical notes
  • Diagnostics, prescriptions, and surgeries
  • Carrying out tests such as x-rays, ultrasound, and blood tests
  • Dealing with emergency cases - possibly necessary when clinic becomes hospital status
  • Health checks and vaccinations
  • In patient care and handover duties on their clinical care correctly communicated to other colleagues
  • Managing ethical decisions
  • Being aware and knowing of laws surrounding animal welfare
  • Client advice about their pet such as dietary recommendations
  • Pet passport paperwork
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with clients with regards to their pets investigations and treatment and advice about after care.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints
  • Utilise advisory boards and fellow staff to ensure clinical excellence is delivered
  • Adhere to RCVS regulations and health and safety regulations
  • Proactively develop clinical skills and complete CPD requirements
  • Collaborate with other veterinary professionals to ensure comprehensive care
  • Educate pet owners on proper animal care and treatment plans
  • Maintain accurate medical records for all patients
  • Stay updated on advancements in veterinary medicine and surgical techniques

  • Proven experience as a lead or senior veterinary surgeon
  • Ideally have an area of specialism
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures and veterinary practices

Facilities:

The practice will soon be fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. They also welcome equipment requests from vets and the team. They are open to all ideas and would support a new vet who wants specialised equipment, The practice will open with 3 consultation rooms, a cattery room, 2 operation rooms, a laboratory, and a pharmacy. They plan to further expand the clinic into the upstairs level in two years. The practice has the capabilities for dentistry services, X-ray, ultrasound, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, neutering, anaesthetic monitoring and microchipping.

Package:
  • Salary: Up to £90,000 per annum, commensurate to experience
