Who are we?

CellVoyant is an AI-first biotechnology company that predicts stem cell differentiation using live cell microscopy and artificial intelligence. We use this approach to optimise and unlock human tissue manufacturing for research and therapeutics applications. We aim to understand and solve important health issues, make a long-lasting positive impact on society and change the world.

We spun out from the Carazo Salas lab at the University of Bristol in 2022 and are backed by venture capital firms who were the earliest investors in DeepMind, Exscientia, Recursion, Automata, Wayve, and Abcam.

 Who we're looking for

The Research Scientist will play a pivotal role in our research and development efforts, focusing on the generation and differentiation of iPSCs into various metabolic cell types, such as hepatocytes, adipocytes, and pancreatic beta cells. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in stem cell biology, cellular differentiation protocols, and a deep understanding of metabolic disorders. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of biotechnology and artificial intelligence, contributing to groundbreaking advancements in the field of metabolic disease research.

Requirements

  • Develop and optimise protocols for the differentiation of iPSCs into metabolic cell types, including hepatocytes, adipocytes, and pancreatic beta cells.
  • Design and conduct experiments to investigate cellular functions, metabolic pathways, and disease mechanisms in differentiated cells.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate findings and drive project milestones.
  • Prepare and present research findings to internal teams, external collaborators, and at scientific conferences.
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant applications, scientific publications, and patent filings.
  • Stay current with advancements in stem cell biology, metabolic research, and AI applications in biotechnology

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field with a focus on iPSC technology and metabolic diseases.
  • Extensive experience or equivalent expertise in the culture, differentiation, and characterisation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), both phenotypically and functionally.
  • Proven expertise in differentiating iPSCs into various metabolic cell types, including hepatocytes, adipocytes, and pancreatic beta cells, with a strong background in functionally testing these differentiated cell types.
  • Strong understanding of metabolic disorders, including but not limited to diabetes, obesity, and fatty liver disease.
  • Proficiency in standard laboratory techniques, such as cell culture, gene editing (CRISPR/Cas9), flow cytometry, and imaging.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and guidelines for stem cell research and therapeutic development.
  • Experience with high-throughput screening, omics technologies (e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics), and bioinformatics is a plus.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
  • A collaborative and innovative work environment at the forefront of AI-powered biotech research.
  • The chance to make a significant impact on the treatment of metabolic disorders through cutting-edge science and technology.
