What is the job?
We are seeking a part time Waste Stream Coordinator to support the facilities team. To oversee, coordinate and audit Thorlabs Ltd waste streams ensuring statutory compliance.

Working Hours: PART TIME – 30 hours a week split over 4/5 days – onsite.

What is essential to us…

·       Experience of Waste stream coordination within a manufacturing environment, including some hazardous waste.

·       Industry recognized qualification in waste management.

·       Health and safety knowledge working in a heavy goods manufacturing environment.

·       Knowledge of environmental legislation and practical skills to implement these into practice.

·       Ability to influence and communicate with people and coordinate projects.

·       Forklift experience or happy to be trained.

Who we are?

Thorlabs is a global, industry leading optical technologies company. We are experts in the design and manufacture or a range of innovative photonics products. We use these products in manufacturing and research, from fibre optics to piezo motors. We are the gold standard with optics laboratories worldwide. There are now 22 facilities across the world in 13 countries. Here in Ely, we are responsible for the Motion Control and Optical Tables product line.

 

Where you will be working?

You’ll be working in our new purpose-built facility in Witchford, Ely, just 12 miles from Cambridge. There are train and bus links to Ely from Kings Cross and Liverpool Street London, and our site is within distance of Ely train station and Ely Bus station.

Requirements

What we would like you to do/ to see…

·       Maintaining and establishing Thorlabs Ltd requirements to comply with all relevant waste steam legislation.

·       Collaborating with QA, H&S, Internal Logistics and Facilities team to implement practical continuous improvement within our waste processes.

·       Carry out regular risk assessments and audits in our waste stream end to end processes.

·       Maintaining documentation as required.

·       Maintain our waste storage areas ensuring solutions are fit for purpose, maintained and labelled correctly.

·       Implement an ongoing training initiative for all relevant colleagues to raise awareness of correct waste stream processes.

·       Collaborate and audit our key internal waste generators and look for reductions at source.

·       Use of Visual Management Systems to show stakeholders the status of our waste streams.

·       Manage contractor(s) as required, ensuring value for money and consolidation opportunity to reduce cost and environmental impact.

·       Working with the Facilities Technician oversee physical handling of waste in production and yard ensuring timely collections and correct paperwork.

·       Lead improvement projects directly linked to waste management to reduce our environmental impact.
