Purpose:

Reporting directly to Warehouse Team Leader and/or Warehouse Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient handling, storage and dispatch of goods in the warehouse. The role of Warehouse Operative involves various tasks including receiving deliveries, organising stock, picking and packing orders and maintaining accurate stock levels. Warehouse Operatives work proactively as part of a team to ensure the smooth operation of the warehouse and meet company standards and customer expectations. 

Key Responsibilities

Receiving Goods and Returns

  • Unloading, inspecting and signing for incoming deliveries
  • Checking the accuracy and quality of delivered items against purchase orders 
  • Timely storage of inbound stock
  • Logging and documenting discrepancies or damages
  • Banding, protecting stock, wrapping pallets and filling stillages

Storage and inventory management

  • Organising and storing goods in the designated areas
  • Performing regular stock counts and inventory audits
  • Using warehouse management systems (WMS) and RF scanners to ensure timely and accurate stock processing and for tracking inventory levels

Order Fulfilment 

  • Accurately picking and packing orders according to customer specifications and OTIP within specified time frames directed by the Team Leader/ Warehouse Manager.
  • Preparing goods for dispatch, ensuring proper labelling and packaging
  • Coordinating with drivers for the timely shipment of orders
  • Loading and unloading vans and lorries safely, accurately and securely following SOPs
  • Processing of orders ensuring that all instructions are fully followed
  • Lifting heaving items, moving, protecting, wrapping and managing all products with all due care and attention 

Health & Safety 

  • Adhering to health and safety regulations and guidelines
  • Promoting the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues by carrying out all activities in a safe manner
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment within the warehouse ensuring empty boxes are flattened, bins and skips are emptied etc
  • Operating warehouse equipment and machinery safely and in line with training provided. Performing daily equipment checks and Pre-Use checks
  • Potential risks, problems, product defects and faulty equipment are reported immediately to your manager
  • Using all equipment respectfully, safely and as trained including MHE, PDA, computer and the WMS 

Quality Control

  • Ensuring that goods are stored and handled in compliance with quality standards so as not to be damaged in transit
  • Reporting any quality issues or defects to managers and advising them when packaging materials are running low

Documentation and reporting 

  • Maintaining accurate records of stock movements and transactions
  • Completing necessary paperwork for inbound and outbound deliveries
  • Providing regular updates and reports to management

  • Participate actively in continuous improvement projects, seek ways to develop and maximise customer service levels 
  • Contribute actively to achieving departmental service level and targets
  • Ensure all business and individual key performance indicators are met
  • Be proactive in identifying procedures to reduce damage, safer working and efficiencies and communicate with your manager

  • FLT and MHE trained- ideally Reach truck, pivot steer and counter balance.
  • Show excellent literacy, numeracy and accuracy skills 

Requirements

  • Counter balance truck/ reach truck or pivot steer truck licence required.
  • Previous warehouse and WMS experience is preferred.
  • Shifts are available on Days, Backs and Nights.
  • Lifting heavy dooors.
