We offer beef and lamb products ranging from retail ready cuts for butchers’ counters to branded packaged meat, all as part of our service; raised on open pastures, sourced from local farmers and hand-selected by our master butchers, we produce beef and lamb products with integrity and unmatched quality assurance. 

We are currently recruiting for an Plant Operator to work in our busy food manufacturing site in Merthyr Tydfil.

This is a full time, permanent position working 4 on 4 off - days and nights with a competivie salary. After successfully passing a 6 month probationary period this will also increase.

Job Purpose:

Responsible for the daily running of the wastewater treatment plant ensuring water discharge remains within the business consent levels.

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO STUDY TOWARDS NVQ MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION - WHICH WILL BE FULLY FUNDED

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, monitor, and troubleshoot the effluent treatment facility with precision.
  • Foster a strong understanding of the operational methods and procedures within the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Stay informed about wastewater discharge norms and consent limits.
  • Acquire foundational knowledge of the physical, chemical, and engineering principles involved in wastewater treatment processes.
  • Conduct daily inspections and assessments of the effluent plant’s performance to ensure optimal operations, documenting key activities such as start-ups, shut-downs, and daily performance metrics.
  • Execute planned maintenance tasks at the water plant during scheduled weekend shutdowns.
  • Record daily site meter readings and upload them to a shared file for accessibility.
  • Coordinate the delivery of effluent treatment chemicals and oversee their loading into the plant's chemical dosing systems.
  • Carry out comprehensive sampling, monitoring, and testing to ensure compliance with established consent limits.
  • Implement proactive maintenance schedules to enhance plant reliability.
  • Regularly drain and clean the effluent treatment facility to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with effluent treatment chemical suppliers and manage on-site chemical inventory.
  • Collaborate with site engineering and hygiene teams during maintenance, troubleshooting, and breakdown situations.
  • Engage with external contractors responsible for effluent plant maintenance and cleaning.
  • Ensure open lines of communication with site management teams for seamless operations.
  • Safeguard the safe storage of effluent chemicals in accordance with the environmental policy.
  • Conduct all activities in line with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as assigned by management that fall within your skill set.

Requirements

  • The ability to work on your own initiative and make decisions
  • Good standard of Maths and English
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Being able to work in sometimes confined spaces
