Overview:

MacTaggart Scott are looking to recruit a Trainee Production Engineer (Bid Support), to work within our Production Engineering Department. This is an opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team that reaches out and supports various areas of the business. Support to the business’ Bid activities is key within the Production Engineering environment and requires great attention to detail.

 

Role:

This role will give the successful candidate an opportunity to train over an 18-month period before becoming a fully trained Bid Support Production Engineer. As a trainee you will be expected to work closely with members of the current team while you progress through an extensive training program that will equip you with the skills and tools you need to be a successful Production Engineer. During your training you will go through various progress reviews that will also include your assigned mentor. Within your role as a trainee, you will work on small project work that will allow you to hone your skills and develop before starting work on medium and large-scale projects. You will also play a key part in developing the Production Engineering Bid strategy and process that will align with the overarching business Bid strategy and process.

 

Duties will include:

  • Completing a phased training plan
  • Developing key skills required in Production Engineering through shadowing and working on small project work.
  • Develop an in depth understanding of the following processes

 

Primary:

  • Bids and RFQ’s
  • Bid Support

 

Secondary

  • Product Definition
  • Routing Changes
  • Production Support
  • Modifications
  • Manufacturing issue resolution
  • Plan on a page

 

Duties will also include in process training and on job training that will include but not be limited to participation in the support of bids, design reviews, manufacturing issue resolution, Plan on a Page

Additional training will also be given for areas such as Microsoft office packages, Creo View, Health and Safety.

Requirements

The successful candidate must;

 

  • Have completed an apprenticeship in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience of working within or close with manufacturing environments
  • Have a good understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills that allow the development of sustainable relationships both internally and externally.
  • Have a positive and structured approach to problem solving.

 

Advantageous but not essential

 

  • Have good planning and organisation skills and work using own initiative.
  • Be able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Have basic computer skills and knowledge of MS Office software packages such as word and excel.
  • Have a base understanding of IFS.
  • Have a base understanding of bids and proposals.
