Job purpose

As part of our ongoing evolution to continue to be at the forefront of analysis in the open-source intelligence domain, we are now expanding our Development and Technology team to enhance the next generation of systems that will enable our customers to interconnect millions of assured data points across Janes foundational intelligence delivering the single source of truth.

We are looking for an Principal Cloud Engineer to join our team as we continue to build the next generation of OSINT products and services.

We are run a modern AWS cloud infrastructure, with a focus on cloud native and serverless technologies.

This role is key to ensure the iteration and delivery of our new platforms, while ensuring we have a safe, performant and operable cloud infrastructure to build on for the future.

How you will contribute to Janes
  • Design, build, and operate our cloud-based infrastructure adhering to the AWS Well-Architected Framework as appropriate.
  • Maintain IaC codebase and ensure platform services are safe, performant and operable.
  • Ensure we adopt an environment of continuous improvement, driving team to operate against 6 key pillars of platform engineering:
    • FinOps
    • Observability
    • Security/Governance
    • DevX
    • SRE
    • Infrastructure
  • Develop engineering standards and practices and ensure they are followed.
  • Support development teams through mentoring in IaC and best use of AWS services.
  • Ensuring production systems are scalable, resilient and secure.
  • Work with software engineering teams to automate provisioning of environments.
  • Researching and evaluating tools to support domain-specific needs.
  • Apply technical capabilities within own discipline to coach and develop junior employees.
  • Provide support to production operations teams.
  • Operate in an agile environment, balancing delivery with the need for solid foundations.
  • Balance time between operations and change as required, helping where needed to achieve our goals as one team.

Requirements

  • In-depth AWS knowledge and experience, operating at organisation rather than service level.
  • Expertise building, deploying, and operating core services in a multi-account architecture with knowledge across accounts and networks, backup, logging, security services, and application and data services.
  • In-depth experience with Terraform.
  • Expertise with cloud native, API driven, serverless architectures.
  • Strong experience working on Containerised environments (Kubernetes/Docker).
  • Good working knowledge of Configuration Management tools like Ansible.
  • Windows and Linux management.
  • Excellent grasp of security considerations across the cloud estate.
  • Experience with disaster recovery, and incident and problem management.
  • Good understanding and appreciation of agile and modern software engineering practices.
  • AWS Certifications advantageous.
  • Configuration management experience.
  • Software delivery tooling (Azure DevOps. Atlassian, Jira).
  • Experience in using continuous integration and continuous delivery solutions across Cloud environments.
  • Expertise in monitoring production environments using operational monitoring application
