Sessional Lecturer/ Module Leader

Location: Keele University Campus (Keele University International College)

Type: Fixed-term contract; part-time, hourly paid contract

Thus, we invite applications from academics interested in being included in a pool of sessional lecturers, module coordinators, programme leaders with the opportunity for hourly paid work on our Foundation, International Year One or Pre-Masters programmes.

Your Profile:

Interested applicants will be able to demonstrate:
  • Previous teaching experience in a related field
  • A University degree; and preferably a Masters (or equivalent,) or higher
  • Ability to communicate with staff and students from a diverse range of cultural and educational backgrounds
  • Excellent verbal and written English language communication skills
  • Good IT, general administration, data analysis and presentation skills
  • A can do mentality
  • Fluency in English
  • Desirably, knowledge of the UK Higher Education system (and/or previous teaching experience at a UK HE institution).
The roles explained:

Sessional Lecturer Core Duties:
  • Design lectures and seminar materials
  • Deliver lectures
  • Facilitate seminars
  • Facilitate assessments
  • Marking and feedback of specific module group
  • Monitor student attendance and engagement
  • Assist academic and student services with student support activities
  • Participate in some Quality Assurance activities:
    • Standardisation
    • Double/second marking
    • Moderation
    • Assist Module Coordinator in their reporting duties
Sessional Module Leader Core Duties:
  • Ensure all module materials are up-to-date and relevant and support students in achieving the module learning outcomes
  • Ensure the module VLE is of high quality and complete
  • Where there are several module groups, ensure all Sessional Lecturers deliver the module consistently
  • Deliver lectures
  • Facilitate seminars
  • Create assessment briefs in line with the module specification
  • Marking and feedback of specific module group
  • Monitor student attendance and engagement
  • Assist academic and student services with student support activities
  • coordinate and participate in Quality Assurance activities of the module:
    • Standardisation
    • Double/ second marking
    • Moderation
    • Gather and assist college in response to student feedback
    • Assist the Programme Leader in their reporting duties
    • Be accountable for module level student outcomes [e.g. retention, satisfaction, successful completion]
