Rail Commercial Manager - Fixed Term Contract

Location: Birmingham

Salary: £500 - £600 per day umbrella

A High-Speed Rail business is seeking a dynamic and experienced Rail Commercial Manager to oversee and deliver commercial activities within the Delivery teams. This pivotal role involves working closely with supply chains and contractors, assuring and supporting their commercial activities to provide an independent view to the Head of Commercial. The successful candidate will be instrumental in achieving the award of all contracts required to deliver the construction, testing, commissioning, and operation of the High-Speed rail project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide commercial support and decision-making across all contracts, ensuring they align with the strategic objectives of the project and deliver value for money.
  • Manage contracts throughout their term, ensuring they deliver demonstrable value for money and meet project goals.
  • Build value-adding supply chains with sustainable commercial relationships, complying with obligations set out in the Development Agreement.
  • Experience in dealing with stakeholders, leading, and providing solutions to problems.
  • Analyse contracts and manage contacts including Rollingstock, Depots, Communications, Signalling, Rail Systems, Power, and M&E.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to manage and administer high-value and delivery-critical contracts for major complex infrastructure projects.
  • Develop commercial strategies and plans for capital projects.
  • Support the development and management of effective, value-driven commercial relationships with the supply chain.
  • Conduct negotiations and settle disputes with internal and external parties.
  • Manage stakeholder parties to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Develop commercial policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Support the development of commercial teams.
  • Demonstrate contract, commercial, and risk management skills.

Experience:

  • Experience managing commercial management teams in infrastructure projects and programs.
  • Experience working with or for publicly funded bodies and/or publicly funded projects.
  • Experience planning, developing, and implementing infrastructure contracts, and working with procurement teams in tender preparation, administration, and evaluation.
  • Experience using commercial management and reporting systems.
