Engineering Manager

Purpose of Engineering Manager role:

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be responsible for day to day running of the engineering/processing department. The scope of work will include supporting machinery maintenance and breakdowns, continuous improvement projects as well as supporting the setting/processing technicians.

Working with the Production Manager, QHSE, Logistics Manager, Sales & Procurement you will be part of the team that ensures the customer receives a quality product on time in full.

Engineering Manager responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and equipment throughout the site.
  • Document and log improvement opportunities, provide costing justifications, and facilitate change development, implementation, and training support.
  • Implement new processes and methods, supporting them with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and providing necessary training.
  • Train, coach and influence others and, acting as a Change Agent, champion lean manufacturing/continuous improvement efforts throughout the organisation.
  • Partner with production manager to identify areas of improvement & develop engineering solutions, and support building the business case.
  • Coordinate and manage all areas of the engineering team simultaneously.
  • Provide assistance on machinery breakdowns.
  • Support integration of new products into the business.
  • Ensure the team carries out periodic preventative maintenance tasks to manufacturer specifications.
  • Work with the general manager/production team to implement new improvement projects on the shop floor.
  • Work with Production using lean manufacturing principles to determine the method of manufacture for new products.
  • Build peer support and strong internal company relationships with other personnel.
  • Review and create safety documentation for engineering processes onsite.
  • Support the maintenance/toolroom and process technician teams.

Engineering Manager required experience & skills

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience of Electrical/Mechanical Engineering and be able to read engineering drawings, demonstrating appropriate ability to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience of working with injection moulding machinery.
  • Experience with working with injection moulding tooling.
  • Knowledge of injection moulding processing.
  • Good understanding of mathematics, knowledge of robotics would be beneficial. Training will be given, but the candidate must have the aptitude and positive attitude to learn and apply this new skill.
  • Experience of working in planned/preventative maintenance systems.
  • Previous management experience preferred but not essential.

Qualifications

  • Full Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering. (Ideally multi skilled)
  • IOSH
