Join our the Quality Team that is part of the Engineering Team team as a Quality Engineer on the Major Highways project and you’ll be part of it.

Role Purpose

This role will be working on the NEAR programme, across the South of England (M25, M4, M3, M20).

The NEAR Programme is Retrofitting Emergency Area laybys to the existing SMART Motorway Network across the UK. The works consist of earthworks, drainage, retaining structures/walls, technology and communications, signage, surfacing and various traffic management installations.

This role will assist the Quality Team to ensure that the Near Schemes are compliant and remain compliant with the quality requirements of its contract with National Highways.

What you'll be doing

Accountabilities:

  • Ensuring the business is compliant with ISO 9001 and other client/industry/Project/SBU quality related requirements
  • Assisting to ensure that the Quality Management System is developed and implemented within the parameters of the partner’s and the Alliance Quality Management Systems and thereby maintained under current ISO 9001 Certification
  • Ensuring business awareness of Quality policy and BMS quality requirements
  • Coaching & developing quality skills
  • Challenging systems and processes to ensure best practice and continual improvement
  • Interfacing with audit function to support the Quality Manager and quality Team with Management System audits
  • Provision of Quality related training to equip the business with the skills to drive improvements in Quality performance
  • Providing support to allow Management System Reviews to be successfully conducted
  • Regularly auditing/ checking and monitoring the progress of the Completion Packages (Green Files) all along as the Project advancement
  • Facilitation of quality related improvement initiatives
  • Production of appropriate reports and management information
  • Assisting in the collection of data & trends for the monthly Quality Report
  • Support the application of Lean construction techniques in order to save money, reduce waste and optimise construction.

Who we're looking for

You will need the following experience:

  • Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity 
  • Proven previous experience in a similar quality role (preferable)
  • Experienced in highways and construction requirements
  • Experience of supporting  the site teams to achieve right first time results
  • Prepared to coach & train personnel 
  • Good knowledge of working to ISO 9001
