Network Engineer - Contract position to start ASAP - based in Newport, South Wales. Competitive rate, working 9am to 5pm (Mon to Fri) - Benefits include 28 days holiday, on site parking, discounted canteen, Pension

Our client are a global manufacturing organisation and are currently seeking a Network Engineer to join them on a contract basis (for a minimum of 6 months). Working as part of a small team, the Network Engineer will be required to design, implement, maintain, and support a new network infrastructure project. You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for designing, deploying and managing all aspects of the network systems and ensuring high availability and performance.

Duties of the Network Engineer will include:

  • Network Design and Implementation - including Install, configure, and support network equipment including routers, switches, SDWAN, OOB Network and Wireless Network.
  • Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting - Monitor network performance (availability, utilization, throughput, and latency) and test for weaknesses.
  • Perform network deployment, maintenance and system upgrades
  • Documentation and Reporting - Create, update, and maintain network diagrams and documentation.


Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
  • Proven hands-on network engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco IOS, Wireless, SilverPeak, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g. IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
  • Familiarity with access control models and network security.
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Cacti).
  • Strong knowledge of network hardware (Cisco Wired and Wireless devices, SilverPeak, OpenGear ).
  • CCNP or higher (Cisco Certified Network Professional) certification is a must.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Previous experience in a similar role - ideally related to a specific project / upgrade
  • Ability to work in a team
