I am currently recruiting for 3 Maintenance Engineer positions in the West Midlands for a Bakery.

Job description

Salary - £47,190 per annum

Holiday - 23 days inclusive of bank holidays

Pension - Salary Exchange at statutory

Hours - 4 on 4 off shift pattern on a rotating shift pattern of 2 days and 2 nights (7am to 7pm - 7pm to 7am), 12 hours each shift. This is a site based role.

Principal purpose of the job

  • To provide a pro-active approach to the prevention of equipment failure and ensuring the schedule PM is carried out as planned.
  • Ensuring Quality, waste and efficiency targets are met by working as an integral part of the manufacturing team.
  • Following all Health & Safety procedures at all times.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Carry out work assignments issued by Lead engineer and maximize effectiveness of the shift at all times by ensuring efficient completion of tasks.
  • Demonstrate a team approach with regard to maintenance and hygiene of equipment and support (teams of) operators.
  • Provide support to the team during breaks and absences and work together to ensure completion of their duties.
  • Follow all work instructions, procedures, job descriptions at all times.
  • Ensure that all Work Orders, PM's issued to the shift are completed.
  • Complete all necessary paper work.
  • Work with other functions as part of the manufacturing team to ensure efficient running of the equipment and carry out prioritized work as agreed.
  • Carry out the assigned activities to meet operational targets; working with other functions to ensure mutual objectives are met.
  • Compliance with Company policies, procedures and regulations (e.g. attendance, quality, safety, GMP's, etc.) and ensure these are followed to maintain the required standards (e.g. Food Safety, PPE etc.).
  • Resolve mechanical and/or electrical problems in a timely fashion.
  • Order spare parts as required on shift if unavailable from stock and contact contractors/suppliers as required in order to resolve problems on shift.
  • Ensure all parts removed from stores while on shift are booked out of stores in the correct way
  • Where necessary, must initiate the purchase of parts or equipment completing the relevant order requisition forms with relevant information., handing them into the Lead engineer or Engineering Stores Administrator for processing
  • Provide the Lead Engineer with information on all engineering downtime attended on shift,, related quality issue, work orders completed, PM's completed and other details as required.
  • Identify and analyse problems before crises and determine appropriate action and follow up.
  • Ensure remedial works to equipment raised by work order or PM's are highlighted to the Lead engineer.
  • Complete "Permit to Work' system when appropriate. 18. Advise teams (of Operators) on a continuous basis with regard to simple maintenance and/or continuous improvement.

Work closely with Production teams (Leads and operators and shift supervisors). Work under supervision of Lead Engineers. Also Liaise with QA, Logistics and Warehouse as required. Ensure that handovers are smooth and efficient whilst sharing relevant information with shift engineers. This should be carried out in the plant. Request/give information from/to Lead Engineer.. Capable of instructing un-skilled/semi-skilled people in simple operations of equipment and set up of machinery (on going).

Use of power tools, drills, grinders, cutting equipment, saws, files, presses.
Use of ladders, steps, walkways.
May have to work with hot equipment using suitable safe systems of work and/or PPE.
Occasionally will be required to operate FLT's to handle parts/equipment.

Reports to Lead Engineers. Make decisions which can effect safety/safe operation of equipment in conjunction with Shift supervisors/leads/hygiene/operators.

Qualifications and job skills required

Previous food processing industry experience highly desirable

Electrical and/or mechanical qualifications/time served apprenticeship.

2 Years experience of working in an automated production environment.

A good standard of both written and oral English

Basic Health & Safety

Data and analytical skills

Computer literate. (word/excel/windows based packages)

Desirable skills :- PLC, pneumatics, hydraulics, temperature control ,instrumentation, welding, FLT license
