Salary: Up to £12.05 per hour

Hours: 39 hours per week, Term Time, 8.15 - 4.15 Mon- Thurs, 8.15 - 3.15 Fri

Edgewood School is a state-of-the-art independent specialist day and residential school for up to 26 children aged 7 to 18 with a range of complexity and need, including; Autism, moderate to severe learning difficulties, speech, language and communication difficulties, and associated challenging behaviour.

The Role

As their first students have settled in well and are off to a great start, they are now looking to expand their team further to enable them to welcome more young people to the School. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of something new, have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of their students and develop your education career.

They are seeking passionate, energetic Teaching Assistants who can work alongside Teachers to promote a love of learning. If you are creative, organised and have previous experience of supporting others with SEN they would like to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working in small class sizes with high staff to pupil ratios; assist the Teacher in all aspects of preparation and delivery of high quality learning opportunities.
  • Assist the Teacher to develop innovative and forward thinking approaches to learning and communication tools to maximize pupil potential and learning opportunities.
  • To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with pupil needs and outcomes at the core.
  • To manage and support all students with regulating and reducing challenging behaviour, this includes appropriate use of physical intervention (where trained) in line with the school policy and the individual’s Behaviour Support Plan.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Experience in supporting children and/or young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of KCSIE
  • Knowledge of the role and an understanding of its rewards and challenges
  • Understanding of children with SEN
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Positive and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Tolerance and patience
  • Resilient and able to work with challenging behaviours
  • A natural respect of the individuality and dignity of vulnerable young people

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualification in Teaching & Learning or willing to study
  • Qualified in alternative communication tools such as Makaton or British Sign Language
  • Experience in a previous Teaching Assistant role in SEN setting
