Our client is a highly successful mushroom producer and distributor with national reach and an instantly recognizable brand. After several decades of development this family business has recently invested in state-of-art plant and equipment and is ready for the next phase in their success story. As an indication of geographic area the location lies within the Australasian region. Precise details will be communicated during one-on-one engagement.

Opportunity

Due to succession planning requirements a Senior Compost (or Substrate) Manager need has arisen and our client wishes to plan ahead and select a replacement who will overlap with the incumbent to ensure a smooth transition. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach, have the aptitude for ‘thinking big’, and the relevant technical knowledge and people management skills for this level of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and supervise the compost operation and production
  • Work with Senior Management to ensure short- and long-term goals and objectives are being met
  • Develop relationships with and identify new sources of material inputs for composting operation
  • Create and maintain various reports regarding production, safety, inventory, and regulatory oversight
  • Document all incidents in accordance with company policy
  • Identify challenges in operations along with taking corrective actions
  • Planning and organize production schedules
  • Manage and evaluate machine resources to ensure productivity and minimal downtime
  • Monitor all expenses incurred for the compost operation. Develop and control profits, plans, and budget.
  • Establish workflow policies that enhance speed and efficiency without compromising product safety or integrity
  • Stay current with new technologies and trends in the composting industry and effectively integrate where appropriate into existing processes. Oversee any facility upgrades/other projects that may arise and long-term planning.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelors or other degree/qualification in Agriculture or equivalent work experience
  • Approximately 7-10+ years of composting experience required; Experience overseeing an entire composting facility preferred
  • Familiar with compost equipment such as loaders, grinders, screeners, aeration systems, and automated bagging, mixing & stacking equipment
  • Experience with trucking and delivery logistics
  • Fluent in written and verbal English, other languages are an asset.
