Medlock Partners are partnering with a global manufacturing business based in Preston to help them identify a Purchasing Manager for their team. The successful person will be part of a team of 3, reporting into a Purchasing Director with line management responsibilities for two Purchasing Specialists.
This person will hold responsibility for the implementation of the delivery and purchasing strategy of the respective functional area, in coordination with the Purchasing Director and the international purchasing management team.
Key responsibilities of the Purchasing Manager:
- Working across functions to identify areas that would benefit from outsourcing.
- Finding, visiting, & auditing suitable potential vendors for current and possible future requirements.
- Negotiating with vendors on prices, lead times, available capacities etc.
- Planning and managing the transfer of work from the factory.
- Daily procurement of SAP generated MRP requirements.
- Daily expediting of all outstanding requirements to ensure min. 90% vendor OTD.
- Daily interrogation of MRP system to verify accurate due dates and quantities.
- Obtaining quotations to support Sales function.
- Managing & closing out any Quality related vendor issues.
- Actively supporting 5S and Lean projects.
- Auditing new and existing suppliers as part of approval process.
- Identifying, quantifying & driving cost saving initiatives
- Supplier and Subcontractor Management – on capacity, price negotiation, quality complaints.
- Strategic planning of raw materials
- QV04 Management – process for new suppliers, new materials, material changes
- Reporting of Purchasing metrics to Management Team and Global Purchasing Manager
- Inventory management
- Contract management – FLT, Company Commercial Vehicles, Energy
- Maintaining SAP database related to Purchasing function – supplier data, prices, material master
- Team management experience preferred - responsible for the two Purchasing Specialists
- Experience of using Microsoft Office, SAP is essential for the role
- Experience in an engineering/manufacturing sector would be highly advantageous
- Supplier auditing experience
- Strong negotiating skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Pension 7.5%
