Role Overview:

As a People Officer, you will be an integral part of our People and OD Team, providing specialist workforce advice and ensuring the consistent application of our workforce policies across the organisation. You will work both autonomously and collaboratively to support managers and staff in achieving our corporate objectives, all while navigating the intricacies of employment law and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer expert advice and guidance on workforce policies, including grievance, attendance, capability, and disciplinary issues.
  • Support managers through sensitive and complex employee relations cases, ensuring fair and consistent handling.
  • Coach managers to develop effective solutions for their workforce challenges.
  • Participate in job evaluation processes and communicate outcomes with empathy and clarity.
  • Advise on and assist with the planning and implementation of organisational changes, fostering an inclusive approach.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with professional and trade union groups.
  • Contribute to People and OD projects and initiatives to enhance our services and support organisational goals.
  • Keep abreast of changes in employment legislation and best practices, ensuring continuous professional development.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in an operational HR role.
  • CIPD qualified or equivalent, with evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in workforce advisory roles within medium-sized organisations.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment law and the ability to apply it to workforce policies.
  • Experience in handling employee relations cases and conducting investigations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels.
  • High level of confidentiality, diplomacy, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in delivering training to managers and staff.
