Hours:                  40 hours per week split between Okehampton site and Exeter College

Reporting to:     Engineering Supervisor

Role Summary:

An opportunity to join a state-of-the-art business producing a premium pet food. You will join a small engineering function to learn the trade and develop yourself alongside experienced technicians within a new automated facility.  Tasks include carrying out both electrical and mechanical work such as planned maintenance activity, managing breakdowns, finding out and eliminating the root-cause of problems and working on continuous improvement projects.

Main duties & Responsibilities:

  • Learn and put into practice the core skills required to be a Multi Skilled Maintenance Technician. i.e. Safe use of hand and power tools, Mechanical repairs, Dismantling and reassembly, Fabrication skills, Safe Isolation, Electrical Testing, Fault finding on electrical control panels, including PLC’s and Robotic Systems.    
  • To drive overall factory performance through continuous improvement ideas.
  • To ensure standards of quality, food safety, hygiene and housekeeping are maintained within their area appropriate to a quality food manufacturer.
  • To represent the Company in a professional manner with both internal & external customers.
  • Help solve problems and make suggestions for improvements, so that better ways of doing tasks are identified and implemented.
  • Communicate and co-operate with other people to achieve department and company goals. 
  • Comply with all health and safety requirements to ensure a safe working environment.

Person Specification

Experience & Knowledge

Working knowledge of a FMCG environment would be an advantage.  Confident use of computers and related software.  Able to demonstrate good problem solving techniques. GCSE’s in Maths and English are required.

Skills & Personal Attributes

Good numeracy and literary.  Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels. 

Ability to prioritise and manage your own time effectively.  Must be trustworthy, reliable, and punctual in keeping with the company values.  Flexible approach to working hours.
