Residential Childcare Officers (Day) Waking Night Officer (Night)

We are looking for both day and night workers to be placed on a rota to cover shifts across our children’s homes in Cardiff.

They will be 8 – 12-hour shifts on a rota. The rotas are organised weekly to meet the demand of the individual homes.

The right candidates need to have a driving license and be registered with Social Care Wales as a Residential Childcare Officer/Waking Night Officer.

We will need to be provided with the full working history of each candidate and also need references to confirm there are no safeguarding issues or concerns.

Experience of working with young people is desirable. Full training is provided as part of a comprehensive induction programme.

Sleep in's are paid additionally at £40.80 per sleep in. (Waking Nights will not receive the sleep in rate) Ensuring the right staff are matched to the right child or young person is at the forefront of the services we deliver.

You would have one stable base but from time to time your skills and approach may be better suited to working in one of our other homes.

Our homes are all close together and would not involve unreasonable travel considerations. It takes a special type of person to dedicate their career to supporting others.

We are looking for individuals to help ensure children and young people receive a high level and quality of individual support throughout their time in our home.

You will be working within a team supporting children and young people to achieve positive outcomes, build appropriate relationships and have fun, being there at every step of their development.

You need to be willing to learn and share experiences, skills and knowledge whilst also putting children and young people at the centre of your role.

As a Residential Childcare Officer, you will play an essential part in providing direct care and effective support to young people in our short break home to enable them to achieve positive outcomes in line with their childcare personal plan.

Every day is different, and you will face new challenges, we need staff members with a can-do attitude, that are willing to go above and beyond for the young people in their care. We need our team to help recognise and promote young people’s individuality, uniqueness and diverse needs whilst providing a nurturing and positive environment.

As a Waking Night Officer you will be awake on duty at all times throughout the night to monitor and to respond to young people’s individual needs and the requirements/instruction of on-call Managers.

You need to have the ability to communicate effectively with a range of out of hours services as and when required. You will be required to take part in handover at the beginning and end of the shift, carrying out any tasks as requested and reporting any observations or incidents to the incoming staff of which they need to be aware.
