To support our progress, we are currently recruiting for a Quarry Team Leader (8.1d Deputy Quarry Manager) to come and join our team at our Knutton Quarry, Newcastle under Lyme, ST5 6BH

The successful applicant will be a member of a multi-functional production/TPM team aiming to achieve key targets within the departmental environment, thereby helping to deliver Cost, Quality and Efficiency benefits to the Quarry and Factories supplied with materials from the quarry.  Hours of work will be based around a 4.5 day working week, 06.00 to 16:15 Monday to Friday and 06:00 to 13:00 hrs Saturday including 0.5 hour unpaid meal break. When nominated as the Duty Regulation Person they must stay until all quarry operations have ceased and all contractors have left site.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • The operation of a 360º Excavator blending clays from stockpile faces and moving materials as directed
  • The operation of a wheeled front end loader, loading materials into Lorries for delivery into the factories. Ensuring that high quality raw material of the appropriate consistency is sent to the factory.
  • The operation of a wheeled tractor with the following attachments: -
  • Water bowser
  • Brush
  • Loading forks
  • Front end loading bucket
  • Salt / Grit Spreader
  • Operation of weighbridge and water treatment plant.
  • Ensuring all the plant and equipment in use within the quarry is checked and maintained (Creating and maintaining the highest standards of housekeeping and environmental management
  • Ensure areas are inspected / maintained in accordance with local Health & Safety Standards and work within Standard Safe Operating Procedures
  • To deliver through the process of TPM plant improvement initiatives and continuous improvement
  • Assist in the development of SSOP’s and Risk Assessments
  • Complete appropriate quality assessments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Management of all operations within the quarry
  • Ensure compliance with the company SHEQ procedures
  • Ensure that key government health and safety legislation (Quarries Regulations 1999 and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Quarries) Regulations 2008) is implemented throughout the site
  • Keep up to date with relevant government legislation and industry developments
  • Assisting in the management of contractors both in the quarry and on the estates
  • Assisting in planning quarrying activities.
  • Assisting in day-to-day quarry safety checks.
  • Develop recipes to maximise use of extracted mineral
  • Build your knowledge of extraction and processing systems and your interpersonal and management skills to ensure the efficiency of the quarry operation
  • Check that the quarry's production levels are maintained safely to ensure stock levels are maintained
  • Alter the quarry's production system in accordance with the materials required
  • Performance manage the production process and set and monitor targets
  • Provide information and statistics on the quarry's performance
  • Develop links with local groups and organisations
  • Manage and regulate the quarry's budget
  • Maintain up-to-date records and deal with paperwork
  • Ensure quarry water levels are within control
  • Develop inspection systems and checklists
  • Write development proposals and reports
  • Build your knowledge of our customer’s processes
  • Build your knowledge of Clay Technology and Ceramics to assist in problem solving with our clay product factories.
  • Full operational understanding of how mobile plant works and have a MPQC Competent Operator card for quarry vehicles, such as a Wheeled Loading Shovel, 360 Tracked Excavator, Tractor with attachments, etc…
  • Complete annual CPD submissions
