A boundary pushing medical device company looking to enhance the scanning ability measuring magnetic fields within the brain are looking for a Design Engineer to join their team.

Based in the midlands, Nottingham, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of like-minded designers, engineers and scientists. As a business who have grown in a short space of time, working towards the medical approvals for the use of their technology to be used for epilepsy diagnosis and treatment, you will be part of shaping their future, along with the contribution of creating a consumer-focused product truly making a difference.

As a Design Engineer will you be responsible for:

  • Produce mechanical designs and solutions for bespoke components and products, meeting customer requirements
  • Responsible for the full life cycle design including CAD modelling, DFM as well as the design and maintenance.
  • Competent in face-to-face meetings with customers.
  • Sales / Research team liaison to capture product requirements and create design specifications.
  • Internal stakeholder communication producing standard operating procedures to detail manufacturing and assembly methods
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to build and deliver the products within budget and timescales
  • Contribute to the overall team to assist the Company with its period of expansion

Essential requirements to be successful as a Design Engineer you will have:

  • A degree in Mechanical, Design, Industrial Engineering or similar discipline and 2-5-year industry experience in a relevant engineering role.
  • Experience in the full product life cycle design.
  • Experience using 3D CAD Software, ideally Siemens NX however other packages are still applicable.
  • Solid understanding of DFMA
  • Experience with complex surfacing in 3D CAD. Again, ideally Siemens NX however other packages still applicable.
  • Capable of detailed drawing to manufacture, assemble and purchase.
  • Tolerance analysis experience.
  • Familiar with external suppliers on manufacturing feasibility and technical requirements of designs at all stages.
  • Test programme creation, and procedures for new and existing products.
  • Team player, good communication, self-motivated and self-starter in attitude and approach.

Desirable requirements to be successful as a Design Engineer you will have:

  • Experience using FEA.
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing techniques & materials.
  • Analytic skills; structural & tolerance analysis, and use of FEA, mathematical analysis & modelling.
  • Experience of using MRP / or ERP systems.
  • Creation of engineering documents.
  • Development and implementation of solutions utilising various technologies meeting industry standards.
