Our Government Client is looking for a Senior Technical Architect to lead the technical design of systems and services and lead on all technical matters within the Infrastructure Team.

Scope and Objectives

  • Deliver high-level and low-level technical designs for Our Client and wider government customers that meet business, technical, and cyber security requirements
  • Provide technical oversight to escalated 4th line technical issues, mentoring engineers in incident and problem resolution
  • Collaborate closely with business analysts and project managers to identify optimal IT solutions, developing robust, scalable, and secure system architectures that enhance business performance and efficiency.
  • Drive changes that increase technology performance, availability, scalability, including flexibility and decrease complexity to optimise revenue and cost
  • Review, analyse and approve project requests to ensure any technology changes or improvements meet Oir Clients standards and make effective use of standards, principles, tools, and patterns
  • Lead brainstorming sessions to develop solutions for business needs or problems
  • Identify system enhancements to enable performance and/or cyber security improvements.
  • Maintain own professional development and expertise in the latest emerging technologies and best practice to support and grow the business.
  • Provide clear briefs, presentations and/or reports to clients and stakeholders relating to specific technical tasking (to include product reports, impact assessments of change, technical artefacts produced by delivery programme ‘pipeline’ etc.)
  • Ensure a full audit trail is maintained for all engagement and decisions taking place in respect of indicated activities.
  • Act as an experienced senior technologist, to support the Chief Technology Officer facilitate conversations and events across the organisation and government. Promote our digital and technology capabilities to UK government organisations
  • Provide recommendations for new technology patterns, standards and guidance for implementation whilst ensuring architectural alignment to wider UK government

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Excellent people skills and an ability to explain and understand technical complexity.
  • Enterprise Architect experience and being confident in the development and use of suitable architectural standards (including but not limited to TOGAF).
  • Experience in relevant roles, including technologies in enterprise and virtual environments and of working within a secure environment such as the FCDO, MOD.
  • Lead the automation of platforms, products, and services, enabling workflows to enhance efficiency.
  • Experience creating technical and architectural documents such as options assessments, low and high-level technical designs.
  • DevSecOps experience in automation and improvement in development and release processes (Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery).
  • Experience of requirements management and the ownership of requirements.
  • Substantial experience of server/operating system and network technologies, as a minimum Hybrid Cloud, Gateways, PKI, Email, VMware virtualisation platforms (including VCD, VSAN, and NSX), SASE architecture, Cisco, and Palo Alto.
  • Experience in design and migration to public cloud capabilities in M365 (including Microsoft Azure) and AWS.
  • Working knowledge of auditing and security products configuration.
  • A comprehensive understanding of NCSC, GDS, CIS, Cyber Essentials, and NIST IT security principles, along with experience in UK government technology strategies and policies.

Desirable (in no priority order)

  • Worked in a matrix organisation structure.
  • Infrastructure as a Code (IaC), Containerisation, and Microservices.
  • Qualified in TOGAF, Zachman, MCSE, VCP, CNNP, or ITIL Expert Leader/Master.

Constraints

Candidates submitted for this role must be British nationals, and be able to confirm:

  • They are a British citizen or hold dual nationality, and
  • They have been a resident in the UK for at least two of the last five years

Due to the nature of this requirement, UK Government Security Clearance if not already held will need to be obtained.

The minimum Security Clearance required for this role is SC.
