DSL needed for a SEND School in Leamington Spa Immediately

Have you worked as a Designated Safeguarding Lead previously?

An alternate provision in Leamington Spa is looking for an experienced Designated Safeguarding Lead to join their team immediately, on a temporary 6-month basis.

This is a smaller, calm and therapeutic alternate provision in Leamington Spa and caters for students aged 14-19, who have autism and high anxiety and struggle in mainstream education. They pride themselves in creating a welcoming, motivating, and nurturing atmosphere where every pupil is encouraged and inspired to achieve their potential and develop a love of learning.

The duties of the DSL will include taking lead responsibility for all safeguarding and child protection matters arising at the school, supporting staff in dealing with any child protection concerns that arise, promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact, to be available for staff to discuss any safeguarding concerns. The successful candidate be given the time, funding, training, resources, status and authority within the school to carry out the duties of the post including committing resources, and where appropriate, supporting and directing other staff to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Experience in working as a DSL (preferably in a SEND setting but not essential)
  • Minimum 6 months’ experience working with children and young people
  • QTS is preferred but not essential.
  • Enhanced DBS registered or willing to acquire a new certificate.
  • Can effectively lead a team using positive strategies.
  • Will be kind, caring and patient when dealing with children who require specialist support.
