Summary of the Role:

Join our dynamic team as a Mechanical CAD Technician! We specialise in designing and building precision robots for industries such as aerospace, automotive, defence, oil and gas, and renewable energies. You will support our mechanical engineering team, providing detailed design and draughting services for robot-based electromechanical systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed mechanical designs using 3D solid modelling tools from initial concepts to final release.
  • Prepare high-quality 2D orthographic drawings in line with BS/ISO/ASME standards.
  • Process engineering change requests and design/material non-conformances.
  • Support design reviews and manage technical product documentation (TPD).
  • Ensure timely completion of design milestones and deliverables.
  • Provide draughting advice to junior team members and assist in maintaining design standards.

Qualifications:

  • HNC in Computer Aided Draughting and Design (CAD), Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years of design and drawing office experience in an aerospace and defense environment.

Key Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in technical product documentation preparation (BS 8888/ASME Y14.100).
  • Strong understanding of dimensioning, tolerancing, and engineering change management.
  • Expertise in electro-mechanical machine design and design for manufacturability.
  • Advanced skills in 3D CAD part and assembly modelling.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with precision machining, welding, metal casting, and additive manufacturing.

Desired Skills:

  • Interpret design ideas from hand sketches.
  • Create precise 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
  • Manage time effectively and prioritise tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
