Principal Structural Engineer

Cardiff

£60k-£65k plus benefits

Are you a Chartered Principal Structural Engineer? If the answer is YES then maybe this is the perfect role for you!

Our client is looking to appoint a Principal Structural Engineer into their Cardiff Building Structures team, with the plans to develop and grow the Building Design practice in south Wales and across the UK.

Our client is very well represented in the industry and employees find their encouragement for internal progression to be just one of the reasons they stay. They provide multidisciplinary engineering services and integrated solutions across a wide range of projects relating to buildings and infrastructure. Their projects spread across sectors including: Education, Commercial, Industrial, Residential, Defence, Energy and Transportation.

This great opportunity allows the successful candidate to work with major clients on stimulating and high-profile projects both in the UK and abroad. As well as the role providing technical and creative challenges, you will have the satisfaction of working on projects which are changing the way people live and work today.

The successful candidate would be a Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE), be technically excellent with established skills and delivery capability. You would be experienced in the design of building structures using the conventional engineering materials (steel concrete, timber, masonry) to both British Standards and Eurocodes. You would have the ability to translate this broad range of technical skills into imaginative ideas which enhance the quality of their designs, and you should be able to showcase your experience on developing projects from concept to construction stage. It is very important to have excellent communication, presentation skills, experience of solely actively managing clients and working to budget and program.

They are looking for someone who has experience in successfully leading the structural engineering delivery of medium sized projects, including the management of project teams. You should have the ability to make decisions, act on your own initiative and operate in a pro-active way. Ideally you would be a curious minded individual who enjoys the stimulation of exchanging ideas with others.

You would be expected to deliver multiple projects or parts of larger projects to completion, within budget and to program and ensure the provision of efficient high quality structural engineering design. You will be the first point of contact for clients, contractors, design team and third parties; and you would be required to attend multi-disciplinary design team meetings and lead them if required. You would be a main contact to offer support and guidance to more junior members of the team, alongside effectively managing your own time which will be necessary when allocated to more than one project.

You will check/review structural engineering analysis and design to both Eurocodes and British Standards, and assist in managing the broader team through mentoring and training. You will be carrying out structural surveys and assisting in the preparation of fee proposals. This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.

If this role sounds like the perfect step for your next career move, please send your CV and job reference to Graham Ventham at Conrad Consulting.
