Senior Smart Buildings Consultant – Kent - £65,000

A brilliant opportunity has presented itself within one of our key clients. They are looking for a motivated Senior Smart Buildings Consultant to join their national team.

The Senior Smart Buildings Consultant position

In this role, you will be part of the Technical Consulting team; responsible for delivering technical advisory services for our clients across all sectors.

There will be focus on energy efficiency, building automation/control strategies, and digital energy solutions that contribute positively to decarbonisation.

You will be able to carry-out BEMS Audits / Condition Reports therefore experience with BEMS related project work is highly desirable. This includes the ability to interrogate existing software (e.g. set files) & description of operation.

Main responsibilities

  • Conduct onsite feasibility studies or plant and process to identify opportunities for energy, carbon and cost savings.
  • Interrogate individual systems and develop innovative solutions to deliver optimisation and decarbonisation outcomes.
  • Review existing building control strategies (primarily HVAC) through the existing Description of Operation, BeMS Head End, and Interrogation of current Control Strategies (e.g., through SET software).
  • Demonstrate strong levels of knowledge of HVAC plant (Boilers, Chillers, Pumps, Air Handling Units) and advanced dynamic control strategies to propose enhanced energy efficiency such as weather compensation, demand response, & trim.
  • Develop technical reports and investment grade business cases including fully costed scope 1 and 2 reduction pathways over short to long term time horizons; backed up with detailed impact forecasts covering energy, emissions and cost reductions.
  • Propose best practice optimisation techniques to the BSRIA AG98 standard.
  • Propose innovative modifications of control strategies and rules to enhance our clients BeMS software beyond a standard (BS-EN15232 Class C) HVAC control system.
  • Undertake data analysis including detailed trend and exception analysis of high frequency data to explain inefficiencies and model impact of proposed interventions.
  • Align scope 1 and scope 2 reduction programs with wider Net Zero transition plans produced by Net Zero team.
  • Advise clients on new decarbonisation technologies, ensuring proposed solutions incorporate the latest thinking on integrated systems and “single pane of glass” through Business Intelligence (BI) applications.
  • Contribute to presales activities including new business meetings, site surveys, scope development and sales efforts, as well as thought leadership through written papers.
  • Support the development of the Consulting team, including resources & capabilities, systems, processes and innovation in line with the overall objectives.
  • Development of consistent methodologies for feasibility studies, technology reviews (including due diligence), process assessments and financial modelling.

Key requirements

  • A strong knowledge of HVAC Plant & Control Strategies as well as BSRIA AG98 & BS-EN15232 best practice.
  • Electrical, Mechanical or Building Services qualifications essential to a degree level or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of professional experience either performing energy, BMS or renewables audits and/or delivering control optimisation programs in a variety of client sectors
  • Technical understanding of Electrical, Mechanical and Utility Infrastructure
  • Commercial awareness of UK Government energy policy and incentives
  • Ability to develop accurate assessments and reports to a high standard
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel (Power BI desirable)
  • Ability to carry out BeMS audits & interrogate software files such as ‘Set’

Person Profile

Willing to travel throughout the UK on a regular basis and able to prioritise and manage high workloads whilst professionally regulating internal and external expectation.
