About this client/child: Otto (18) lives at home with his Mum, Dad, brother (16) and Sister (12), in a fully adapted house. He attends a local SEN school part time, an evening buddy club, as well as social clubs on the weekend. Otto enjoys movies, arts and crafts, music, and outdoor walks, as well as bowling, Boccia and other social outings. Otto has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, a visual impairment, epilepsy (controlled with medication) sleep apnea and he is also non-verbal. Otto requires 24/7 support, for all aspects of his care needs, including medication via his PEG, JEJ feeding, and BiPap machine, all personal care and showering.

Overview of role: Otto and his family are looking for a new Care Team Leader, to come and join his wonderful family and team of support workers. When arriving at 7.00am, the Care Team Leader will have a handover with the night carer, and together they will support Otto with all aspects of his morning routine, including personal care. Around 8.30am, a second support worker will arrive, and together, you will support Otto to enjoy his day. Otto attends hydrotherapy on alternate Wednesdays, and on Thursdays he catches up with schoolwork set by his college. There is time in the week to plan extra activities for Otto to attend, though you’ll need to be flexible and adaptable for plans to change if Otto is feeling under the weather and needs a rest day at home instead. Otto’s family would love his new Care Team Leader to have experience in supporting people to develop their communication. This role involves a 12-hour weekend shift, either a day, or a waking night, to accommodate the rest of Otto’s team. During a waking night, Otto requires monitoring whilst he uses a BiPap and SATs machine and to administer and record his medications. You will be in an adjoining room with a CCTV monitor; Otto requires constant monitoring through the camera, and his SATs recorded each hour. Otto has medications for epilepsy, and although this is well controlled, he requires someone to be vigilant throughout the night. There will be team leader duties such as compiling Rota’s, writing up daily records, stock taking of meds and ordering and maintenance of equipment. This is a full-time role, paying £33,000.00 gross per annum.

What’s great about this job: Otto and his family are known to Snap Care and will be a pleasure to work for. There are opportunities to receive professional training specific to Otto’s needs. This family cares about the welfare of their staff, and offers supervision, a good wage, pension scheme and annual leave entitlement.
