Overview:

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Senior Buyer will be a strong negotiator, responsible for the acquisition of consumables, technical materials and services required in the production of our clients projects, as well as general procurement. The Senior Buyer must be highly motivated to drive continuous improvement, with a can-do attitude and a high standard of professionalism at all times.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the procurement of goods and services ensuring delivery, cost, and quality targets are achieved while operating within budgets and achieving cost-saving targets.
  • Follow purchasing guidelines, policies, and procedures to continually challenge cost, quality, and lead time.
  • Sourcing value for money, quality suppliers, and securing commercially appropriate quotations; negotiating pricing and payment terms.
  • Identify the correct procurement strategy for the full range of materials and services.
  • On-board new Suppliers to our client, setting them up on the ERP system as required, ensuring the appropriate process is followed, utilizing standard terms and conditions.
  • Processing requisitions and raising purchase orders and updating the key stake holders on the status of orders.
  • Expediting deliveries to the required timescales and maintaining accurate date within the ERP/MRP system.
  • Experience to foresee potential quality and delivery risks, with the knowledge to implement corrective actions.
  • Build relationships with suppliers, negotiating the best terms for price, quantities, and delivery.
  • Arranging transport of goods and tracking orders to ensure timely delivery of purchased goods.
  • Handle invoice queries, liaising with the finance department for resolution, and ensure all purchase orders entered in the system are accurate.
  • Confidence to feedback any changes which could reduce the cost and/or improve the quality of supply without negatively effecting the function of the good or service.
  • Negotiate, execute and monitor contractual agreements with suppliers.
  • Deliver challenging annual cost down targets.
  • Managing, arranging and carrying out supplier audits to ensure the requirements of our client are set, met, and managed, establishing KPI’s relating to cost, quality and on time delivery.
  • Run and action the company MRP reports / maintain MRP and ERP with live data relating to supplier delivery dates.
  • Ensure timely and efficient delivery of all consumables and materials.
  • Oversee the maintenance of company stock holdings to the agreed re-order levels.
  • Ensure all pricing and product information is up to date on the database.
  • Seek continual improvement, especially in relation to reducing costs and maintaining stock at an optimized level.
  • Work closely with Project Management, Production and Quality
  • Attend contract reviews when necessary to provide procurement input.
  • Coaching and mentoring apprentices in the department
  • Work with Materials manager to ensure synergy between department.
  • Investigate stock variances.
  • Present findings and data in all formats e.g. mathematically, written and oral.
  • Effectively research and analyse demand, spend, trends, potential suppliers and industries utilising qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • Experience of buying within a manufacturing facility.
  • Understanding of the 4 processes of negotiation.
