Depot Manager – Preston - Transport

Established in 1970, Montgomery Transport Group is one of Europe's leading suppliers of logistical services. The company is a privately owned business, part of the Ballyvesey Holdings Group that has grown significantly in recent years, now providing a diverse range of Logistics Services throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Montgomery Transport are now recruiting for a Depot Manager to join their friendly team in Preston.

Depot Manager must uphold a current Transport Manager CPC.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage fully with all new technology being brought into the depot.
  • Assess and review your team, highlight skills shortages and or training needs.
  • Liaise daily with the Traffic Offices to prioritise MOT’s/defects/servicing as required.
  • Responsible for the welfare and safety of all personnel, both office and operatives and for all Health and Safety implications within the depot
  • Organise internal snap audits of completed work leaving the workshop.
  • Ensure that measuring and test equipment is inspected in accordance with the calibration requirements.                                 
  • Ensure a good standard of housekeeping is maintained at all times.
  • Ensure all waste is disposed of in a controlled manner in compliance with environmental requirements. Retain and file associated paperwork.
  • Ensure all garage staff/supervisors/fitters have the correct PPE.
  • Allocate weekly workshop safety checks to the supervisors in accordance with procedures and ensure that any faults/defects are rectified.
  • Maintain the ISO Standards 18001 & 14001, engaging with Consultants and Assessors in this process to maintain, promote and develop an improved IMS
  • Promote and ensure that all operations are carried out with particular regard to health, safety and environmental controls.
  • Engage with the H&S function and ensure there are relevant Risk Assessments and SOP’s for all procedures carried out within the workshop and assist with their implementation. Where a risk assessment or SOP is not in place identify the short coming and raise the issue immediately with the Safety Manager.
  • Flexible approach to working. Be willing and be prepared to react to last minute tasks and react accordingly working with a can-do attitude. Encouraging those you oversee daily to work to their full potential, whist maintaining a high personal standard.
  • Ensure the workshop is safe and secure.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Familiarity with commercial workshop environment,
  • Multi-site administration of large fleet operations,
  • ISO familiarity
  • Familiar with Health and Safety Regulations
  • Must hold an up-to-date CPC and Transport Manager Qualifications.

Hours and Wages:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 8am to 6pm shift time
  • 35K to 40K
