Sure Start Staff has a great opportunity for an experienced Gardener to work for Rochdale Council.

• You will have a full UK driving licence and previous gardening/grounds maintenance experience.
• PA1 & PA6 Pesticide certificates - preferred

Job details:

• Temporary, 6 months, with the opportunity for extension
• £12.59 per hour
• Full time, 5 days per week plus, must be flexible to work 2 weekends out for 4 per month
• One will work from Green Lane, Heywood
• One will work from Hollingworth Lake

Responsibilities:

• Carry out gardening/grounds maintenance duties, including grass cutting using pedestrian and handheld ride-on mowers.
• Strimming, hedge trimming, shrub maintenance, edging off on the council's green spaces, weed removal and general street cleansing.
• You will also be expected to litter pick areas where required and empty litter bins if necessary.

Requirements for the role:

• You will be physically fit, as you will be required to lift heavy machinery.
• Be enthusiastic, reliable and willing to learn about all aspects of horticulture.
• Be able to work alone or as part of a team.
• Willing to work in any part of the borough.
• Willing to work overtime as part of the service needs and requirements.
• Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions/seasons.

Experience / licences / qualifications:

• Full UK driving licence - Essential.
• PA1 and PA6 Pesticide certificates - Desirable.
• Qualification in Horticulture NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent - Desirable.
• People skills - as you may be dealing with the general public.
• Attention to detail.
• Previous gardening experience in a working environment.
