When I chatted with, Rory, the Finance Director, about this role, I asked him a few questions…

Why would somebody leave their current role for this one?

 “We’ve doubled revenue in two years and will double again in the next two. We want somebody to come in and design, develop and implement the control environment. So, it’s an opportunity for the right person to have the freedom to add significant value to us as a business grow their career with us as we scale – We’re also quite a purpose driven business so they’ll be working for a business that is positively contributing to low emissions construction and our products will help protect the planet for future generations”.

What’s important about the person?

“We have 90 colleagues, and I could go out for a coffee or pint with any one of them. We employ good people who aren’t driven by self-interest, we pull together, treat people how we want to be treated ourselves and I think that it’s important that the FC is aligned with this. It’s also important that the person is confident, self-assured, and a self-starter who brings us solutions & ideas. Coming into an established team can sometimes be difficult so getting to know the team, our internal and external stakeholders, and building those key relationships will also be key to their success.”

What’s the biggest challenge for the FC coming into this role?

“Because of the pace of growth, we’ve had to be quite reactive as a finance team, so the person who comes in will be tasked with documenting and recording the processes and then designing a process that’s more structured and proactive to allow us to scale further. I think that will be a challenge but hopefully, one that the right person will relish. They’ll have our full support, and the success will have a positive impact on the whole business”

About you:

·        Qualified Accountant – ACA, ACCA or CIMA.

·        3 years post qualified experience

·        Experience of managing teams

·        Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

·        Strong understanding of accounting principals and reporting standards.
