Job Description

Genomics England’s Generation Study is a groundbreaking research project.  It aims to assess to sequence the genomes of 100,000 newborn babies in partnership with the NHS.  Through the Generation Study, we will investigate whether whole genome sequencing in newborn screening could enhance the diagnosis and treatment of genetic conditions. Developed in collaboration with the public, families affected by rare conditions, healthcare professionals, policy makers, and scientists, this study will run in various hospitals across England. The findings will contribute to future decisions on newborn screening, accelerating diagnosis, and treatment access for rare conditions. 

As the Study Coordinator, you will join on a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract, and will play a crucial role in supporting the regulatory processes and administrative activities required for the setup and management of the Generation Study. Your meticulous attention to detail and expertise in regulatory and quality assurance processes will ensure the smooth execution of the study, and you'll be responsible for: 

  • Preparing and submitting regulatory and ethics documents as required by national (HRA, REC) and local (NHS R&D) standards. 
  • Collaborating with the Ethics Lead on regulatory strategies and amendments. 
  • Managing various aspects of study coordination and site management. 
  • Support document preparation and updates for site approvals, including the FutureNHS workspace. 
  • Overseeing internal tracking, change control, and documentation systems with precision. 
  • Regularly updating NIHR CPMS, ISRCTN, and other research databases. 
  • Coordinating study activities with sites, including scheduling meetings and training workshops. 
  • Preparing and distributing communications to participating sites (newsletters, updates, alerts). 
  • Ensuring the study's efficient and compliant setup, maintenance, and close-down with a focus on Quality Assurance. 
  • Following and maintaining regulatory SOPs. 

We anticipate that the ideal candidate will have: 

  • Experience in a similar role, in research studies, clinical trials, research and development 
  • Experience in quality assurance (QA), research ethics and regulatory processes. 
  • Exceptional administrative skills with a high level of attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work independently, to tight deadlines, and to manage multiple tasks efficiently. 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in using research databases and maintaining electronic filing systems.

Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility. We expect most people to come into the office 2 times each month as a minimum. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. There is no expectation that staff will return to the office full time unless they want to, however, some of our roles require you to be on site full time e.g., lab teams, reception team. 

Our teams and squads have, and will continue to, reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
