Risktec Solutions Ltd are looking for talented engineers who are graduating or have recently graduated and are passionate about the Nuclear Industry and are driven to work and learn valuable engineering skills in a dynamic environment.
 
What is the role
This is a site based graduate engineer role at EDF Heysham 2 nuclear power station and you would join the Engineering Support Team (EST). The role is working within the Engineering Department to provide support to experienced system engineers at the power station. You will help increase equipment reliability by monitoring plant trends and suggesting areas for improvement. The role will provide you with invaluable experience of working at an operational nuclear power station, with the aim of you becoming the future engineers in a growing nuclear industry.
 
What are we looking for?
You will have good organisational and communication skills, and a passion for learning and developing your understanding and skillset. The industry encourages input from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds to improve the robustness of the decision making process, and we welcome applications from any graduates with STEM related degrees, although an engineering degree/ background is preferred. Candidates should be proficient with MS Office Suite, and preferably have experience with Visual Basic (VBA) or other programming languages.

What is it like working as an Engineering Support Team (EST) member at Heysham 2?
EST’s primary role is supporting safe and effective generation, and all the activities that this entails.
 
EST responsibilities include:
  • Liaising with stakeholders from various departments at the station, as well as contacts at other EDF sites, and possibly third parties outside of EDF (e.g. equipment manufacturers).
  • Organising and tracking activities and programme statuses to facilitate delivery goals and reporting to regulatory and oversight bodies (e.g. Office for Nuclear Regulation and World Association of Nuclear Operators).
  • Development of safety case understanding in support of station requirements.
  • Application of industry best practice (e.g. World Association of Nuclear Operators and Electric Power Research Institute).
  • Supporting analysis and decision making of senior EDF personnel.
 
Through this work, an EST member will develop a strong understanding of industry practices and standards, and the skillset to continue on into other roles.
 
Duration of Position
Full-time (38h/week) with an initial fixed duration of 1 year with a view to becoming permanent.

Security Clearance Checks
Due to the nature of the work, the candidates must have a suitable background that will allow them to achieve UK security clearance (please note that this is very difficult to achieve within the timescales for non UK nationals, and you will subject to a screening process prior to interview to ensure that you meet the security clearance criteria).  By applying for this role you will be agreeing to undertake initial security clearance screening and will be asked to provide evidence of your eligibility for security clearance.
