The Senior Design Engineer - Rail Role:

You will undertake and supervise the design of complex structural renewal and maintenance projects from inception to design completion.

This includes:

  • Undertake structures assessments and structure inspections, assessments, and preparation of reports.
  • Manage the delivery of site investigations/surveying, including conducting site investigations, surveys, desktop studies, and programming responsibilities for the implementation of projects allocated.
  • Prepare and review technical reports and draft specifications for remedial and improvement works, including preparing technical reports on the condition/capacity of existing structures.
  • Prepare calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and technical reports to support the design, assessment, survey, or investigation carried out as determined by the nature of the tasks given.
  • Undertake detailed design and prepare supporting documentation, including drawings, technical work scopes, and risk assessments.
  • Identify technical resources required to deliver aspects of a project, supervise implementation of the work, and undertake appropriate checking.
  • Ensure your designs comply with good design practice, relevant technical, professional, and group standards, aiming for accurate packages with a minimum of rework.

  • Will take on financial, site investigation, survey, design, assessment and programming responsibilities for the implementation of projects allocated
  • Oversee the development of all design and construction contracts to ensure compliance with required standards as well as current safety legislation
  • Will take on mentoring responsibilities for more junior staff

The ideal Candidate:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • ICE Chartered or equivalent relevant membership to an institution
  • Must have excellent knowledge of Group Standards/Health and Safety legislation, including CDM regulations, and how it impacts on the industry
  • Knowledge of engineering drawing practices
  • Should be competent in CAD and familiar with Structure Analysis packages (STAADpro or similar)
  • Experience in railway-based civil engineering and structures
  • Has a track record of managing a team and producing accurate packages
  • Capable of managing the delivery of technical projects, or parts thereof, allocated providing monthly update of progress for client report
