Our client, who are a market leading Research & Development organisation based near Southampton are looking to recruit 2 x Lab Technicians to support current project demands. Key Expectations from the Role

  1. Conducting Packaging Analysis:

    • Perform various tests on packaging materials including tensile and compression tests, optical properties, surface analysis, permeability, and diffusivity.
    • Ensure all analyses meet the required technical and quality standards in line with the analytical strategy.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to identify testing requirements.
    • Keep stakeholders informed of progress through formal and informal communication channels.
  3. Operational Support:

    • Provide operational support to the materials testing laboratory as required.


Accountabilities

  1. Materials Testing:
    • Conduct materials testing for packaging as required, covering a range of physical tests.
  2. Technical Support:
    • Apply technical knowledge to support cross-functional teams within the organisation.
  3. Stakeholder Communication:
    • Contribute to interactions with peers to identify testing requirements.
    • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders about progress and results.
  4. Quality Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with quality systems and requirements to maintain robust analytical processes in the laboratory.
  5. Best Practices:
    • Adhere to and promote principles of best practice in all aspects of the role.
  6. EH&S Policy:
    • Understand, promote, and apply responsibilities under the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policy.


Experience, Skills, Knowledge



Essential Experience

  • Technical Experience:

    • Proven experience in delivering testing of packaging materials and physical testing requests independently or as part of a team.
  • Problem-Solving:

    • Ability to address new problems from first principles.
  • Industry Knowledge:

    • Knowledge of cigarette components and New Categories products and their role in product usage.
  • Collaborative Working:

    • Experience working collaboratively within a team, with stakeholders across functions, and with external suppliers.
  • Analytical Data:

    • Understanding the value of analytical data to the business and its contextual use.
  • ISO Accreditation:

    • Experience working in an ISO-accredited laboratory.


Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills

  • Product and Packaging Knowledge:

    • Ability to utilise product and packaging knowledge to execute and deliver requests, including routine testing, new method development, method extension, and ad-hoc investigations.
  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Ability to actively collaborate and communicate with cross-functional analytical teams, R&D, and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Support:

    • Provide technical experience and skills support within the team.
  • Communication and Organisation:

    • Possess good communication and organisation skills.
  • Teamwork and Independence:

    • Ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently.
  • Clear Thinking:

    • Be technical, quality-driven, pragmatic, and clear-thinking.


Education / Qualifications / Certifications

  • Academic Achievement:
    • Professional or industry experience or academic achievement related to physical science up to degree level or equivalent.

These positions are initially for 12 months to provide maternity cover however could last longer depending on business demands.

Hours: 35 per week (Monday to Friday)

Pay: £17.19 per hour (PAYE)
