Job Title:Estimator

Location: Oxford

Thorn Baker has teamed up with a design-led construction company, building and manufacturing for clients and organisations who share their passion for attention to detail, and belief in doing things differently. They are looking for an Estimator to support them with their growth in demand.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other documents to prepare comprehensiveand differing forms of tenders, budgets, cost estimates, etc. for construction projects.
  • Conduct thorough quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications to determinematerial and labour costs for each project.
  • Utilise estimating software and tools to generate detailed cost breakdowns and proposals.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes from subcontractor and suppliers, negotiating pricing andterms to ensure competitive bids.
  • Prepare and submit bids and proposals in a timely manner ensuring all required informationis included.
  • Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates and proposemitigation strategies.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and proposals to clients and participate innegotiations as needed.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Surveying or related field (or equivalentwork experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years' experiencein construction estimating, preferably with a principalcontractor.
  • IT literate (Microsoft, construction estimating software)
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to interpret complex plans andspecifications.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in preparing estimates and documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaboratewith internal teams, design teams, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, building codes and contracts (particularlythe JCT Suite).
