Job Description

We have a unique opportunity for a Newborns Service Operations Lead to manage the internal operations of our Newborns programme based on a 12 - month fixed term contract.

You will work closely with the Programme Manager, Service Owner and Director of Operations ensuring smooth end-to-end delivery, focusing on live issue tracking, resolution, and effective case management processes.

Everyday responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring case management, tracking, and auditing are in place particularly for cases that need to be investigated across the Newborns programme.
  • Providing oversight of efficient issue resolution and incident management with the service manager.
  • Collaborate with mobilisation and sample logistics teams to address site issues.
  • Support documentation and action tracking for external supplier incidents.
  • Coordinate with SMEs to resolve operational blockers promptly.
  • Monitor and report on key issue resolutions and operational huddles.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements for scalability and efficiency.
  • Oversee critical case information updates and review incidents for operational feedback.
  • Lead change and problem management processes.
  • Drive strategic improvements using data-driven decisions.
  • Ensure adherence to Genomics England's quality standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks within the Newborns programme.

Skills and experience for success:

  • Proven operational management experience in either a healthcare or scientific setting.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to work across diverse teams and manage complex projects.
  • Data-driven approach to continuous improvement.
  • Experience of executing and managing comprehensive service operations and ensuring reliable and consistent delivery.
  • Proficient in handling essential compliance and risk management tasks, ensuring adherence to regulations and processes.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and regulatory requirements in genomics or healthcare.
Qualifications

A degree level qualification is preferred or similar level of experience.

Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility. We expect most people to come into the office 2 times each month as a minimum. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. There is no expectation that staff will return to the office full time unless they want to, however, some of our roles require you to be on site full time e.g., lab teams, reception team. 

Our teams and squads have, and will continue to, reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
