If Health and safety is something you are passionate about, this is the job for you. You will be based in one of the strategic Health and Safety hubs. The role will involve travel throughout Scotland; therefore, possession of a full driving licence is essential.


What you'll do

My client employ Contractors to carry out various construction and maintenance services. The H&S teams and the Contractors each have specific responsibilities to fulfil to ensure the safety of the Contractors' activities.

1. You will guide and support employees responsible for the appointment and management of contractors to ensure they fulfil their H&S responsibilities
2. You will provide scrutiny of the activities of the contractor's H&S teams to ensure compliance with H&S common standards.


This position reports to the H&S Team Leader (Construction and Contracting).
The role will have a national remit, be based on a hybrid working basis from one of my clients Health and Safety hubs and include regular travel across Northern Scotland.


What you'll bring


We'll get you fully up to speed on the technical aspects of the job where necessary. You'll bring strong communication skills and should be confident working on your own, at times remotely, given the geographical area. You should be comfortable working with computer packages - we like to move with the times.
You will guide and support employees by providing clarification and guidance on H&S procedures and legislation.
You will have experience in carrying out incident investigations, producing, updating, and improving H&S procedures. Delivering H&S improvement projects. Organising and participating in Director and General Manager reviews for assigned contractor & you'll have good communication skills and the necessary H&S Knowledge to Support Operational Hubs. You will have experience advising on Preconstruction H&S Reviews, experienced in RAMS review and will attend health and safety meetings as necessary.
You will also provide scrutiny of the activities of the contractor's H&S teams by auditing the contractor's H&S systems and performance. Carrying out periodic site assurance inspections. Reviewing H&S performance data submitted by the contractor's H&S teams for completeness and accuracy. Reviewing the contractor's H&S team's incident investigations for quality and ensuring contractors promptly close out action items and organise director-led reviews / General Manager reviews when required.
You will have a NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent as a minimum and will have experience in engaging and influencing key stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
You will have knowledge of working in the utility/civils or construction industry, particularly around Working at Height, Confined Spaces and DSEAR would be desirable but not essential.
