To perform accurate and timely employee administration and transaction processes using systems (Unit 4) where appropriate, to agreed standards and targets. The role holder will create, maintain and process documentation, records and data to agreed procedures and standards. They will contribute to and recommend changes and improvements to develop the level of service provided by the team to customers. The role holder will receive and resolve straightforward and advanced queries from employees/managers or schools, as referred by 1st Line; and assist the team to develop and maintain appropriate systems and processes.

Key Outcomes:


To ensure payroll and/or pension processing, administration and employee enquiries are dealt with in a timely and accurate manner.

To hold responsibility for providing exceptional customer service to employees and stakeholders while maintaining a high level of accountability and accuracy in all payroll-related activities.

This role requires a strong technical acumen in payroll processing and relevant qualifications / experience to ensure compliance with payroll regulations.

To serve as the primary point of contact for all payroll inquiries and ensure a positive, courteous, and supportive experience for employees.

To oversee the work of junior payroll staff and providing support and guidance where required.

To supervise the accuracy and quality of payroll /pension processing.

To support the training and onboarding efforts of new team members.

Handling advanced / complex payroll / pensions calculations and issues.

Identifying and supporting process improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and enhance overall payroll operations.

The role is within the Payroll Control and Reconciliations team, where the overriding standard is one of excellent customer service. The role holder will liaise with internal and external customers and 1st line support colleagues, working under direct and detailed instructions, under close supervision of senior members of the team with no requirement for forward planning. There is a high volume of transactions in fast paced deadline driven environment, requiring the role holder to take accountability for positive customer experiences. The role holder will hold responsiblity and accountability for supporting junior staff, and ensuring accuracy across all outputs

The council is operating as an agile organisation and so will working flexibly between home and the office in line with business demands. The main office for the service is based in Dakota House, Weybridge but there may be occasional travel required to Council and customer sites (e.g. schools & Academies)


* Ability to work to tight deadlines, and follow procedures
* Payroll and/or Pension experience and understanding.
* Ability to handle complex payroll scenarios and resolve payroll / pensions issues
* Ability to apply quality standards to all tasks undertaken, and review outputs completed by members of the team
* Proficiency of knowledge of payroll and/or Pension systems and softwares
* Significant experience working in a customer facing environment
* In depth knowledge of payroll and/or pensions laws, regulations, and taxation rules.
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and data entry
