Education required:

To be eligible for this placement you must have graduated from a UK university in the last 3 years, and be educated to degree level in Public Affairs, Communications, Business Management, Public Relations or similar.

As a communications and engagement intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting the planning, development, and execution of internal and external communications and engagement activities across a variety of channels, supporting the team with administrative tasks and assisting in the implementation of various strategies that drive team and company objectives.

You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in content creation, social media management, public relations, patient insights and event management. You will help to ensure our daily operations run effectively and efficiently, improve processes and ensure quality deliverables.

This internship will provide a valuable first step into the field of communications and patient advocacy within the pharmaceutical industry, give you a wide range of experience and exposure to different areas of the business, and help you develop essential skills for a successful career in an industry where science meets hope.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the C&E team with day to day administration and processes
  • Assist in creating engaging and informative content for various channels, such as social media platforms, websites, blogs, and newsletters.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to develop and execute social media strategies to increase engagement, manage events such as town halls, coordinate production teams, agency liaison, and coordinate review and approvals of materials.
  • Work closely with the patient advocacy team to coordinate patient initiatives and activities such as ad boards and workshops.
  • Contribute to the creation and dissemination of patient stories and testimonials to raise awareness and advocate for patient-centred care.
  • Ensure consistency and alignment of communications with the Novartis brand
  • Develop and manage the internal communications calendar and news flow
  • Stay current with relevant information and resources regarding Novartis therapy areas
  • Engage with the broader organisation to seek out content for internal channels

You will need:

  • Written and verbal communication: superior written and verbal skills are required as well as an ability to communicate in a clear, persuasive manner to all target audiences, both internal and external.
  • A passion for Healthcare/Life Sciences - some experience in this field would be advantageous.
  • Strong interest in patient care/patient engagement
  • Strong organisational skills and be able to navigate your way around various systems and tools
  • Empathy and interpersonal skills: ability to adapt personal style to suit different scenarios and interactions with patients and their families. Ability to perform well under pressure and maintain both the quality of their work as well as their professional demeanour. A reliable team player.
  • Analysis and assimilation skills: ability to interpret complex issues and articulate through written and verbal communications. Ability to quickly assimilate information and capable of finding own solutions to problems/know where to ask. A lateral thinker.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Time management and organization: highly organized person, capable and willing to set priorities and to provide leadership to internal colleagues, while remaining responsiveness to customer needs.
  • Project management: support in ensuring projects are delivered on time
  • High attention to detail in governance and compliance

Additional Information

Please ensure that you are willing and able to live within commutable distance of the company site before applying. This placement is based in White City in London and whilst we support hybrid working, we would expect the intern to be in the office at a minimum 3 days per week. You will need to be eligible to work in the UK.
