Job Title: School Behaviour Mentor (Specializing in ASD and Autism)

Location: Wheatley, Oxfordshire

Position Type: Full-time / Part-time

Reports To: Head of Special Education / SEN Coordinator



Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Behaviour Mentor to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and autism. The ideal candidate will work closely with students, teachers, and parents to promote positive behaviour, social skills, and academic achievement. This role involves providing one-on-one support, developing individualized behaviour plans, and fostering an inclusive and supportive school environment.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual Support:

    • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with ASD and autism.
    • Develop and implement individualized behaviour intervention plans.
    • Assist students in developing social, communication, and self-regulation skills.
  • Collaboration:

    • Work closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to create a supportive environment for students.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to discuss and plan for students' needs.
    • Collaborate with external professionals and agencies when necessary.
  • Monitoring and Reporting:

    • Track and document students' progress and behaviour.
    • Prepare regular reports and communicate effectively with parents and staff.
    • Adjust intervention strategies based on monitoring and feedback.
  • Training and Development:

    • Provide training and support to teachers and staff on strategies to support students with ASD and autism.
    • Stay updated on the latest research and best practices in ASD and autism support.
  • Environment and Culture:

    • Promote an inclusive and accepting school culture.
    • Implement strategies to reduce anxiety and improve the overall well-being of students.
    • Encourage peer understanding and support through awareness activities and programs.


Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Social Work, or a related field. Relevant certifications in ASD and autism support preferred.
  • Experience:

    • Previous experience working with children or young people with ASD and autism.
    • Experience in developing and implementing behaviour plans.
  • Skills:

    • Strong understanding of ASD and autism and related intervention strategies.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to remain patient, calm, and empathetic in challenging situations.
    • Proficient in using technology for tracking and reporting.

Working Conditions:

  • Based within the school environment, with occasional off-site meetings or training sessions.
  • May involve working with students who exhibit challenging behaviour.
