Position: Sewing Machinist 

Location: Bishops Waltham 

Working Hours: 40 hours per week 

Salary: £12.50 - £13 per hour

Working Hours: 08:00 – 17:00

Summary:

Our client, based in Bishops Waltham, is seeking a skilled Sewing Machinist to join their Soft Production team. The role involves fabric manufacture and stock maintenance, including repairs. The successful candidate will work from drawings and patterns, utilizing straight stitch and overlocking machines on various fabrics such as cotton, canvas, molton, and blackout materials. The position requires precise application of Velcro, sailcloth, hooks, and zips to create modular lining systems. Working closely in a small team under a manager, the team will handle seasonal peaks with possible evening and weekend work. Professionalism and a positive attitude are essential for this role.

Role:

- Follow specific drawings, patterns, or instructions for each sewing task

- Sew various fabrics, including cotton, wool, polyester, and blackout materials

- Adjust machine settings and thread machines for different tasks

- Maintain accurate records of materials used for each job

- Keep the working area clean and tidy, use correct bins, and ensure all equipment and lighting are turned off at the end of the shift

- Maintain and clean equipment, reporting any faults to the supervisor

- Verify finished work against drawing or pattern instructions

- Ensure correct labeling, packing, and labeling of work

- Check, wash, dry, fold, label, and pack laundry

- Perform stock checking and inventory tasks

Responsibilities:

- Maintain high quality and accuracy in all work

- Report any issues, faults, or concerns to the team leader

- Conduct equipment maintenance and stock checks as required

- Ensure general tidiness and cleanliness of the work area at all times

- Assist with any ad hoc tasks as part of the team
