**Scala Developer** (Contract)

Duration: 12 Months (Possibility for extension)

Location: Bromley/Hybrid (3 days per week on site)

Rate: A highly competitive Umbrella Day Rate or salary is available for suitable candidates

Role Description

You will be as senior software engineer working in our core engineering team to deliver significant changes to the Post Trade Securities strategic platform. These applications consist of a ReactJS Web UI, Scala based services providing a APIs or Data transformation or ingestion capabilities. Specifically, you will be engineering a highly responsive user interface written in ReactJS, contributing to a the JavaScript library components and building the APIs that support it.

You will be working as a member of a feature team and your role will be to innovative and deliver robustly engineered solutions that scales to our Global user base and significant trade event volume while at the same time ensuring we maintain strong production stability and high performance. An ability to contribute across the full project lifecycle from design to L3 support when required is important as is the ability to work with a range of other senior Software Engineers and Business Analysts from across our delivery teams to build solutions that meet project requirements. An in-depth knowledge of the securities post trade functions is desirable but not required.

The Team

The team comprises of 5 feature teams focused on building the foundational components on a set of strategic event sourced applications. The team's overall goal is to provide the core capabilities required in the re-architect of global securities post trade applications to enable the migration of trade flows, users and data to the new platform.

The team has a strong focus on engineering practices such as adoption of the banks openshift platform, ownership of the CI/CD build tooling and core platform services. The team often focuses on developer usability improvements as well as the more core cross cutting capabilities required to support our trade flows.

Skills & Experience:

  • A background in modern OO language with good experience in Scala
  • Strong experience in JavaScript, HTML and CSS
  • Extensive knowledge of ReactJS
  • Experience in Cypress testing framework
  • Follows Test Driven Development practices including specification by Example / ATDD / BDD. Follows clean code principles.
  • Experience in Shell Script, Ansible, Jenkins, Gradle or other build tooling
  • Experience in reactive event sourced systems
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills to support and shape the platform and clearly articulate technical designs and concepts.
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills, e.g. collaborative working skills
  • Experience with the Atlassian suite of tools - JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence, etc.
  • Experience of Scrum/ Agile methods
