Are you an experienced A Level Chemistry Lecturer looking for work in Havering?

Winner Education are seeking an A Level Chemistry Lecturer to work within a large college group in Havering who have a choice of courses for local school leavers, SEND students, adults and those looking for higher education qualifications. This role is a full-time 1 term fixed contract which starts in August and ends in December. The ideal candidate must have previous experience teaching Chemistry, and you must enjoy working with children and adults you support and strive to ensure each individual can achieve their true potential.

SALARY: £220 – £240 per day depending on experience.

LOCATION: Havering

HOURS: Full time (Monday – Friday)

START DATE: 21st August 2024

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To support the College's mission, vision, values and strategic objectives.

  • To implement the College's safeguarding policies and practices.

  • To ensure that data is handled in line with the General Data Protection Regulations.
  • To teach Chemistry at the College site.
  • To be a personal tutor/course co-ordinator for a designated group of students within Chemistry.
  • To be involved in all processes and College procedures related to the selection, interviewing, admissions, enrolment, induction and tracking of students.
  • To develop the curriculum in line with national requirements, local community needs, and the needs of employment. 
  • To develop student-centred teaching and learning strategies, which contribute to, increased retention, achievement and progression.
  • To prepare and monitor appropriate syllabuses, schemes of work and learning outcomes.
  • To act as a leader/member of appropriate teams and to liase with colleagues in the design, delivery and evaluation of all aspects of the course.
  • To provide regular feedback to students and to give group and individual tutorieal support to enable them to achieve maximum benefit from their course or programme. 
  • To observe procedures for student monitoring, discipline and complaints in accordance with the College processes. 
  • To liase with employers and other agencies with respect of student placement supervision, course and assignment design, career and higher education opportunities.
  • To attend external courses and conferences as relevant to the work of the programme.
  • To complete and maintain course records.
  • To contribute to the College's annual assessment and review process, including comprehensive review and evaluation of the area of work for which they are responsible.
  • To follow all processes relating to qualifications and examinations, including registration and submissions to validating bodies, liason with the College Exams Officer, moderators and external verifiers in accordance with College policy. 

The successful Chemistry Lecturer must:

  • Be able to teach Biology - Chemistry As & A2
  • Possess a degree or comparable qualification in Biology - Chemistry.
  • Possess a teaching qualification.
  • Have experience of succesful and innovative teaching in A Level Biology - Chemistry and ideas for sharing this with colleagues and to have an understanding of the differences between teaching and learning. 
  • Show evidence of the ability to teach effectively to a range of students of all ages and to prepare relevant materials.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of provision in the curriculum area of Social Science Curriculum and an ability to respond effectively to changes in courses content and teaching methods. 
  • Have an ability to communicate effectively with staff and students. Sufficient enthusiasm and imagination to contribute substantially to the achievement of the colleges aims and objectives. 
  • Have an awareness of the pastoral and academic needs of students from a variety of backgrounds and the ability to respond to those needs positvely and sensitively. 
  • Have experience of working as a member of a team and evidence of ability to work effectively with colleagues.
  • An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities policies and practical ideas for their implementation in this post. 
  • Have experience of successful and innovative work as a Tutor and an ability to establish mutually rewarding relationships of trust with Tuetees in order to promote their personal development and achievement.
